Agency HoriPro Advances Foray Into Anime with New Unit
posted on by Egan Loo
The talent agency HoriPro announced on Wednesday that it established an "Anime Vision Development Unit" for expanding into anime-related businesses, such as training anime voice actresses and anime song performers. It invested in its first anime film (this April's A Letter to Momo), and it also wants to expand into overseas markets in the future.
HoriPro already represents theme song performer May'n (Macross Frontier's Sheryl), live-action actor Tatsuya Fujiwara (Kaiji's title character), and live-action actor Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Gantz's Katō). The agency held auditions in Los Angeles for the first time for the "next generation voice actress artist" last August. Azusa Tadokoro (pictured right), a 17-year-old girl from Ibaraki Prefecture, eventually beat 12,745 other competitors in that "36th HoriPro Talent Scout Caravan" in October.
