Hetalia's Himaruya to Resume Chibisan Date in Comic Spica
posted on by Egan Loo
The editors of Gentosha's upcoming Comic Spica magazine announced on Thursday that Hetalia - Axis Powers creator Hidekaz Himaruya will resume his Chibisan Date manga series in the new magazine. The editors indicate that the manga will run in every issue.
Chibisan Date centers around Seiji, an aspiring young artist who moves from Japan to the island of Nantucket off the southern Massachusetts coast. The manga follows the day-to-day life of Seiji and the local people on the island.
Himaruya launched Chibisan Date in Gentosha's Monthly Comic Birz magazine in 2009, but the manga has been on hiatus for over a year. Himaruya will bring his Hetalia web manga to Comic Birz as a monthly series starting this month. Tokyopop had planned on publishing Chibisan Date in North America as it did for the beginning of Hetalia, but it shut down its North American publishing operations this past May.
Comic Spica will launch around October 28. In addition to Himaruya, the inaugural issue will feature Rie Arai (X - peke -), Ryo Ikuemi (Honey Bunny!, Kiyoku Yawaku, Pops), Chika Ishikawa, Kujira, Kita Konno (Cotton), and Auri Hirao. Gentosha will provide further information about Comic Spica in the October issue of the online magazine Web Spica on September 28.
