Hetalia's Himaruya to Start Chibi-san Date Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
The March issue of Gentosha's Comic Birz magazine has confirmed on Friday that Hidekaz Himaruya, the creator of Hetalia - Axis Powers, will launch a new manga called Chibisan Date in the next issue on February 28. Contrary to a previous report by the Comic Natalie website, the new manga will not be Hetalia. However, the next issue will have a Hetalia clear file illustrated by Himaruya, as well as the last chance at a mail-away offer for an original vocal drama CD. Himaruya had mentioned the new manga in a January 16 blog entry, but had not announced its title yet.
Gentosha already publishes the Hetalia manga in two compiled book volumes, which have sold over 500,000 copies. The Animate company just premiered the anime version this week on its website and on Japanese mobile phones. The anime was also slated for Japanese television, but the KIDS STATION channel cancelled its plans "due to various circumstances."
Whistle! manga creator Daisuke Higuchi will also launch another new manga called Dokushi in next Comic Birz issue. While Higuchi is best known for his sports manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, this new work will be a suspense story. Viz Media published the 21st volume of Whistle! in North America this month.
