Sentai Filmworks Licenses Mardock Scramble Anime Films
posted on by Egan Loo
The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Monday that it licensed the Mardock Scramble film trilogy. The first film will be available with English dubbing and subtitles on DVD and through digital retailers this September, with a Blu-ray Disc release planned in 2012. The trilogy adapts the science fiction suspense novel series of the same name by Tow Ubukata (Le Chevalier D'Eon).
In the story, a teenage prostitute named Rune Balot is murdered in an explosion. However, Dr. Easter saves her, and Balot is resurrected as an advanced cyborg. Balot takes on the worst of Mardock City's criminals as she looks for vengeance.
Megumi Hayashibara voices Rune Balot, and Susumu Kudo is directing the project at the new studio GoHands. Mardock Scramble: The First Compression had its world premiere at New York Comic Con on October 8 of last year. The second film, Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion, will open in Japan on September 3.
Viz Media publishes the novel series in one volume in North America.
