Oshii's Sky Crawlers Wins Venice Fest's Digital Award

The Sky Crawlers, the first animated film from director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor) in four years, has won the Future Film Festival Digital Award at the Venice Film Festival on Friday. The Future Film Festival from the Italian city of Bolgna is sponsoring a sidebar of programming at the Venice Film Festival in Italy to honor films made with digital technology. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, the first animated film from director Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away) in four years, has also earned special mention from the Future Film Festival. There were ten films in contention. The top awards of the Venice Film Festival, which ends on Saturday, have yet to be announced.
