The Dresscodes Band Member Gears Up in Gantz:O Garb

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

This year's 46th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine released a feature on Thursday for GANTZ:O, the upcoming full 3D CG anime film based on Hiroya Oku's Gantz manga. The feature includes a picture of The Dresscodes band member Ryōhei Shima in a Gantz bodysuit. The Dresscodes are performing the film's theme song "Ningen Video" (Human Video).

The magazine feature includes the band's reaction to performing the theme song, as well as comments from the film's chief director Keiichi Satou (Tiger & Bunny, Asura). In addition, voice actress M.A.O (voice of Anzu Yamasaki) also suits up in Gantz's characteristic skin-tight black for the feature. The magazine includes a gravure image of model Ayana "Ayanan" Takeda inspired by the film, although she donned a breezier outfit.

There is no word about whether similar bodysuits will go on sale to the public, but fans can combat the Yōkai Army with MegaHouse's 1/1-scale replica of the film's X Gun. The replica looks just like the weapon pictured with the celebrities in the magazine feature. It could be a key part of some high-end cosplay, possibly pictured beside a real-life version of the Gantz sphere.

The six Mr. Osomatsu brothers also got a GANTZ:O makeover last week on the cover of CG graphics magazine CG World. Unfortunately, they missed out on the full bodysuit experience.

The film opened in Japan on October 14, but it first premiered at the 73rd Venice Film Festival. In Japan, the film will get 4DX and MX4D screenings alongside conventional screenings.

Yasushi Kawamura (Appleseed: Ex Machina CGI director) is directing the film. Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film Gold script) is writing the screenplay, Yoshihiro Ike (Karas, Tiger & Bunny, The Empire of Corpses) is composing the music, and Digital Frontier is handling production.

The original manga followed a young Tokyo man named Kei who is reanimated after a deadly subway accident. Kei and other resurrected people go on violent, seemingly endless missions at the behest of an unseen host. The GANTZ:O film depicts the Osaka arc in which the Tokyo and Osaka mission teams take on the subjugation of the Yōkai Army.
