"Panopticon" project follows prisoners fighting for freedom from servitude in dystopian war
Sony Computer Entertainment's Japan Studio revealed a game titled Freedom Wars through a new trailer on Tuesday. The game was previously teased under the codename "Panopticon."
The official website also opened, and revealed story details as well:
IMPRISONMENT: A not-so-far-off future. The world had been devastated, and no living things could live in the outside world. Humanity built a capital city named "Panopticon," and manages to survive there. However, resources began to run out, and in order to obtain materials to do research to live in the harsh environment, war raged on in the city. In order to keep tabs on all of the people in the city, nearly all humans were forced into imprisonment with hard labor.
RECAPTURE: Those forced into the servitude were called "criminals", and are forced to participate in war as so-called "volunteers". In order to obtain freedom, the "criminals" fight to "recapture" the city, time and time again.
An earlier teaser debuted on Thursday, and more story and other game details will be unveiled on May 30. The game is scheduled for 2014.
In January, Sony Computer Entertainment filed for a trademark in Europe for "Panopticon."
