Sony Japan Teases Panopticon Title With Video
posted on by Karen Ressler
Sony Computer Entertainment's Japan Studio began streaming a teaser trailer for a project titled Panopticon on Thursday. The video was revealed on the official PlayStation website, after a live countdown stream counted up to "1,000,000 years." According to the site, more information on the project will be available on May 21.
In January, Sony Computer Entertainment filed for a trademark in Europe on a symbol (at right) dubbed "Panopticon." The categories the symbol was registered under include computer and video games, toys and playthings, and entertainment.
A "panopticon" was originally coined as a hypothetical prison system by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late 1700s. It was designed to allow a watchmen monitor all the inmates without their knowledge. The word is derived from Greek and translates as "all-seeing."
