Round 1 concludes with 3 Saki Episode of Side A and Working'!!, 2 Nisemonogatari and others moving on

The Anime Saimoe Tournament is an annual poll in which users from Japan's 2channel message board vote on the most moe female anime character of the past year.

Almost any female character in a television anime, anime film, original video anime (OVA), or web anime released in Japan between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 is eligible for the tournament. The main exceptions are characters from 18+ anime, who are not eligible.

Foreigners are technically capable of participating in the tournament; English-language instructions on how to vote have been provided by the Anime Saimoe fan site.

The first round of Saimoe 2012 concludes with Saki Episode of Side A leading the tournament with 15 characters, out of 43 qualifying girls, advancing to the second round. The Idolm@ster comes in next in second with eight idols continuing on. K-on! and Working!! round out the top three with four characters moving on from each series. The top 10 vote-getters from the first round is as follows:

*Note: Five-time tournament veteran Hinagiku Katsura is the only top 10 vote-getter to fail at advancing to the second round. She fell to No. 2 vote-getter, Sanya V. Litvyak.

The most prominent voice actress represented in the second round is Rie Kugimiya -- Yuuki Kataoka, Iori Minase, Astarotte Ygvar, Louise De La Valliere, Nagi Sanzenin, Kurumi Hazuki, Taiga Aisaka, Aria H. Kanzaki and Shana. In second place, six voice actresses -- Kana Hanazawa, Yōko Hikasa, Kaori Ishihara, Kanae Ito, Hisako Kanemoto, Nao Touyama -- represent three different characters.

Saimoe 2012 is taking a one-day break Thursday, Sept. 27, after all the polls for groups A and D conclude. ANN's next report will take place some time after that day with the results for those groups.
