2ch Forum's Anime Saimoe Tournament 2012 Begins
posted on by Daryl Bunao
The Anime Saimoe Tournament is an annual poll in which users from Japan's 2channel message board vote on the most moe female anime character of the past year. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the online poll.
Almost any female character in a television anime, anime film, original video anime (OVA), or web anime released in Japan between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 is eligible for the tournament. The main exceptions are characters from 18+ anime, who are not eligible.
Tuesday, August 14 marks the first day of the first round of the tournament proper. The qualifying 289 characters will now be weeded out in a series of 3-way popularity votes until the top 32 is determined. After that, the rest of the tournament will be a series of 1-on-1 popularity votes. The current status of the Saimoe bracket can be viewed at the Anime Saimoe fan site.
Foreigners are technically capable of participating in the tournament; English-language instructions on how to vote have been provided by the Anime Saimoe fan site.
The tournament will take the next month to determine the winners of the first round of Saimoe. The tournament will take a one-day break on Wednesday, August 22, after the first round winners of Groups A and B are determined. ANN's next results report will be on that day.
