The official website for the Evangelion franchise began streaming two promo videos on Tuesday for NTT Docomo's docomo NEXT series SH-06D NERV phone, the first official Evangelion smartphone. The English-language video describes the technical specs of the phone, and in the Japanese-language video, musician DAIGO gives his opinion on the new phone.
The English-language technology news website The Verge posted a review of the phone on Wednesday as well as a video showing the phone in use at NTT Docomo's summer lineup event in Tokyo.
The concept of the special-edition unit is a phone that would be government-issued by the NERV organization in the world of the new Evangelion films. Pre-orders for the phone start on June 16, and the phone will be released later that month. The phone will include an "Evangelion 3D" short produced by Khara, the studio behind the four-film revamp of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. The phone itself is capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D video. It will also include the "Attack of The 8th Angel" exclusive mini game.
