Swordsmiths Forge 3-Meter Spear of Longinus from Evangelion
posted on by Egan Loo
Swordsmiths have forged a replica, about three meters or 10 feet long, of the Evangelion anime's Spear of Longinus for the "New Japanese Sword Evangelion" exhibit at the Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum this summer. The museum is in Setouchi City's Osafune neighborhood; the former township of Osafune is best known as the home of some of the most skilled swordsmiths in Japanese history.
The Evangelion exhibit will run from July 14 to September 17. The same museum hosted an exhibit with the weapons and armor from the Sengoku Basara game last summer, and 20,000 visitors (mostly young people) visited.
In 2007, Tokyo's J-Art Project exhibited a 28-kg (62-pound) Spear of Longinus replica (pictured right) that was more than two meters (seven feet) long.
