Umineko no Naku Koro ni's Fighting Game Gets Sequel
posted on by Egan Loo
Ryukishi07 (Seventh Expansion), the creator of the Umineko no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koroni dōjin (self-published) murder mystery software, announced on Friday that production on a tentatively titled Ōgon Musōkyoku 2 game has been green-lit. The first Ōgon Musōkyoku spinoff game put the characters of Umineko no Naku Koro ni in a fighting game setting; the personal computer game debuted at the Comic Market 79 event in Tokyo last December. Ryukishi07 added that the second game will likely be offered at this year's "Summer Comic Market or Winter Comic Market … I'm leaning towards the latter (sweatdrop)."
Even though work has already begun on the Ōgon Musōkyoku sequel, Ryukishi07 said that he would have the results of a recent character popularity poll in mind when deciding on which new characters to put in the sequel. Also, in response to female customer feedback, he is thinking of adding a new easy mode that might, for example, allow for one-button special moves.
Videos of the first Ōgon Musōkyoku's opening sequence and gameplay appear below:
Umineko no Naku Koro ni's original dōjin software and its manga and anime adaptations have not been published in English yet, although MangaGamer released the Higurashi no Naku Koroni (When They Cry - Higurashi ) software in English. Geneon Entertainment and later Funimation released some of the When They Cry - Higurashi anime in North America, while Yen Press has been publishing some of its manga. Videos at last month's Fancy Frontier 17 convention in Taiwan demonstrate Ryukishi07's international popularity — and how not to line up for autographs.
