C+ seems really kinda harsh for this volume...I know I really enjoyed the End of the World Arc when I read it, at least, and it's nifty to go back to the first splash page of the first volume and release that the castle has been right there the whole time without anyone realizing it. spoiler[Although there is an even better example of pre-planning that occurs later.]

Hata always gets dinged hard on art though. It's a fair criticism, but at the same time I can't say it's ever effected my enjoyment in any major way, but oh well. At least he's gotten a little better over the years...

It's a little annoying that End of the World the arc gets spread across two volumes, but this has some of my favorite comedy chapters, and the photography chapter at least is important for how it ends and leads directly into the dramatic arc.

Oh, one other subtle touch I appreciate. If you go back to Volume 16 page 124, in Izumi's room you can see the patched up version of the same stuffed animal that gets savaged by a dog in the Volume 17 flashback.

All my nit-picking aside, I'm glad this series is still being reviewed and I hope the next volume is covered as well. A lot of what makes the End of the World Arc memorable is how it ends.

/Open up volume 1

Oh snap! It really is there! And why does Hayate look so cool in that spread?!

Ouch, harsh score, but review are just based on opinions so it's all good. I personally enjoyed the story arc, though it does cut off pretty abruptly O_o Why does the next volume have to be released in September! 6 months per volume, isn't that a bit too large of a gap?

Apparently it hasn't been selling very well*, but it's frustrating even so. Viz is already 10 volumes behind, at the rate they're releasing volumes they'll never catch up...sigh.

*That's the rumor, anyway. All I can say is that I have to pre-order the volumes because they're usually sold out if I try to buy them from Amazon or Right Stuff on the release date. Part of me wonders if Viz was just worried that Volumes 17 and 18 wouldn't sell with the drama and such, even though it's generally considered one of the best arcs in the series.
