This season's been great so far. I love the youthful exuberance in the OP, ED, and animation that's destined not to last. Just like Riko, RIP. Gojo at his absolute shit-eating smuggest is great, and him getting absolutely folded by Toji is even better. There's some good thematic stuff here as well, and I'm looking forward to it closing out with the arc.

Knocking it out of the park so far. It was a wild feeling watching episode 3, knowing what was coming, and slowly realizing that it was going to happen in that episode. It's a short arc, so it may feel like the story is zooming, but they really are doing great with the pacing. It gives me hope that we can probably get through the arcs to come throughout this season.

You know a scene is extremely well directed when you can still feel its effectiveness despite already knowing the events.beforehand. That final scene in the third episode is such a gut punch and really accentuates how merciless and cruel the JJK world is compared to its contemporaries. That even a young girl having an existential crisis about her mortality is just another victim. If I was Geto, I'd kill him all too.
And despite everything I just said, Toji is such a cool ass character despite the horrible things he's done. Casting Koyasu was an A+ choice. |

As a non-manga reader, holy crap was I not expecting that. Blown away by this entire season. My expectations were reasonably high given JJK had done pretty well in the character/writing departments and tremendously in the fight choreography/animation department in past seasons, but this is exceeding my hopes easily. Learning that Shōta Goshozono directed Chainsaw Man episode 8 made so much sense after watching these first three episodes. I'm pumped to see a whole two cours of this with him at the helm.
(And I need to go back and watch Ranking of Kings so that I can see the episodes that he directed, because I read that those are stellar also.) |

The first two episodes felt kinda like a comedy rather than an action series with the whole Gojo ikemen portrayal as well as his relationship with the upcoming teachers (He has been trolling Utahime for almost a decade!) while the third one was so violent it felt like something Tarantino would direct. Still, while I really like the series, the horror appeal seems to be its weak point as I kinda got bored with Utahime's portrayal in the first episode which lasted way too. It's insane that Gojo survived to that brutrality from Fushiguro so I look forward to how they deal with that.
BTW, the season feels more comical or at least better written when compared with the comedy of season 1. Is it because of the change of director? Maybe it's because Gojo feels more engaging as a main character or isn't connected that badly with dark stories like Yuji his story started with his depression over his uncle's death. In the case of Yuta, he didn't react that much to jokes due to the Curse of Rika but as soon as Maki gave him courage, he felt like a more active cheerful character. |

MAPPA's apparent ambition to animate every high profile anime really bothers me, but I admit it: they do a great job handling Jujutsu Kaisen. I was going to wait for this flashback arc to be over to start watching season 2 because I thought it was going to be boring, but I am glad I changed my mind and started watching.
After 3 episodes JJK season 2 is a strong contender for anime of the year in my opinion. |

This series is back with a bang and looking spectacular! MAPPA continues to bring it!
Only criticism I have is the tendency to push comical moments into more chibi-style characters doesn't work for me. Season 1 had some of this but used it with more restraint that I feel was more effective and consistent. Everything else is on-point however, and I do like yhe brighter colour scheme compared to season 1. Can't wait for the next episode! |

I find the exposition and sorcery mumbo jumbo way too intrusive for me to like this show, but I'm genuinely curious: do y'all understand what the characters are saying half the time? Cause I gave up when Gojo started explaining reversed cursed technique

I am not reading ahead, nor do I have any knowledge of this outside of the anime (aside from reading the chapters as they are adapted). My best guess based on that is spoiler[it's easy enough to understand for Limitless: he could previously stop things from reaching him (neutral) or gather things into a ball (positive, and called Blue). Now he can reverse it (Red) to repel, and forcing the two opposing energies together can create a devastating force (Purple). It seems that Blue and Red are called that as a reference to the blueshift and redshift effects. As for how the reverse technique heals, I dunno, but I guess he figured out how Shoko does it. In one of the chapters that this episode adapted, Gojo describes it as: curse energy is negative, but -1 * -1 = 1, so you can make curse energy positive if you multiply it. However that works.] |

I don't really try to think about the details of the cursed energy stuff. Maybe I'm not giving it enough credit, but it mostly sounds like vague atmospheric mumbo jumbo, with a lot of shallow analogies to common mathematical structures. I mostly checked out when Gojo started spamming words about his survival/new attack, and just kind of summarized it in my head as 'Oh he survived with uhh some kind of reverse cursed heal thing; and has a fwd attack; and a reverse attack he couldnt do before; and a super secret attack where he mashes them together. And he likes imaginary numbers. OK'
