People are different, there might not be any effects depending on the person. Is it really manslaughter if you are fighting for your life, against others that want to end you?

He is already in survival mode. Is more danger and threats really going to drag him down.

Though I think you are right that the story is uninterested in that vein of discovery. You'd also be right about the impact, that taking a human from our modern 'peaceful' civilization to this world would have. For the most part at least, though there are also plenty of outliers.
