Despite the somewhat weak ending to the anime, I really enjoyed the show for most of its run. I picked up the novel, i hope it improves on what I watched

Is the novel out yet? What I remember last I checked, the English novel version is slated for later, and released chapter-wise initially. Can't find the link though so can't confirm, BW only shows the manga version...

I can't help but think of R.Kelly when I heard about this series lol. But the anime was surprisingly wholesome so I may eventually try the LN.

Not just wholesome. It actually deconstructs the whole joshikousei fantasy with its depiction of its leads. Which makes the "men are scum" comment by one of the season preview reviewers of the anime adaptation hilarious.
