It's interesting seeing Dirty Pair Flash in this context. I remember when it came out, a "new look" reboot of the classic. Although ironically, now Flash looks dated to me, while the classic simply looks... classic.

It's interesting also that the TV series was not even 10 years old when the reboot came out, but that reboot is now 25 years old.

I’m still expecting some Western company to fund a remake sooner rather than later. Also yes, it should have been on Adult Swim, but those were frankly weird days for adult anime and what did and didn’t get on television, as opposed to today’s table of plenty where it feels like entertainment is distributed through a firehose.

Good pulp sci-fi still holds up despite advancements in actual technology and that to me is the biggest strength of the original show. The chemistry between Kei and Yuri echoes so many iconic buddy cop pairings, and that’s why the show is still worth watching and got its dub funded.

Nozomi have hosted all those other Dirty Pair anime on their own YouTube channel, for free, for years now.

Maybe there should be some mention of what countries are able to partake in said videos, team rest of the world is sick and tired of hearing about available titles just to find out they are region locked.

I don't know why I never watched any of the Dirty Pair's animated series, but I was HOOKED on Adam Warren's comic book version, (I wish I still had those, sold them many, many years ago). Now that they'll be on Blu-ray and dubbed, I'll have to loosen the wallet up and sit down one day and reminisce the glory days....

Wasn't the TV series not even licensed at that point? We didn't get it over here at all until Nozomi's 2010 DVDs, unless I'm forgetting something. It seems like a weirdly long time. I don't recall if there's a specific known reason for that or if nobody was sure if it was wanted at various points in time, for whatever reasons.

The legend was that the audio masters for the TV series with separate music + effects track were lost. So a dub would have had to construct all the sound effects and backing audio before dubbing on top of it, or licensors would have to just deal with a sub-only release. At the time the rest of the franchise trickled over, most licensors preferred to have a dub available and so they would often just pass on properties where a dub would have required a lot of extra work. So dubbing a show from 15-20 years ago (at the time) was considered prohibitively expensive and not worth it. Evidently, those materials were found a la Project A-ko, or they decided it was worth the cost now.

I'm excited for more Dirty Pair out in the wild. ADV's VHS release of the dubbed OVA was my first exposure to the franchise over 20 years ago, and I hope this new dub helps convert some more dumb kids like me into being fans of older anime.

Well, the kickstarter to dub Dirty Pair just pulled in slightly north of a half a million bucks, so sounds like the cost of dubbing and doing the 5.1 soundtracks and etc, is worth it.

Slayers doesn't get a month? You'd need three months. How about Bleach? That would take a year. Then there's Doraemon, the neverending.

Dirty Pair was a series I only knew by reputation for years: getting into anime in the mid-1990s just as I was starting to plug into discussions of it online, I knew it had been popular with English-speaking fans almost from the moment it started airing in Japan (when I have the impression "fansubs" basically didn't exist and those first fervent fans were watching it untranslated). As I was picking up on enthusiastic references and fanfiction alike, however, at that point being able to see most of it still seemed a matter of having connections I didn't have...

There was also the wrinkle a good bit of the discussion seemed to invoke "every story ends with some tiny bit of damage or dropped weapon discharging and setting off the doomsday device anyway, and the Dirty Pair leave thousands to millions more dead behind them even as they wail 'It's not our fault!'"... and while I'm sure this will provoke a "turn in your fan card; you just don't get it" intervention, that did not sit all that well with me. The first two bits of Dirty Pair I actually saw were Affair of Nolandia and Project Eden, which only seemed to reinforce that impression. Getting around to watch the TV series, where things only sometimes went that far, was much more reassuring.

The Dirty Pair was the series that got me into anime in the early to mid 90's, Affair On Norlandia was the first vhs tape of it that I got. I've probably watched the whole of DP 10 times or more. I'd have to say that in order for ranking Affair On Norlandia is 1, DP tv is 2, the 10 ovas are 3, Project Eden is 4, Flash is 5 and Flight 005 is 6. I didn't back the DP kickstarter simply because it was too much money and I already have all the us dvd releases plus the japanese dvd for for the tv series although I'll probably get the regular bluray sets when they get released. I even have the Steamline vhs tapes of the movies and belive it or not they still play!!

I'm still reading this (and liking what I'm reading so far) but there's one thing i have to correct... this line "and, as a bonus, you'll also get to watch a cool cartoon!" Correction, its an anime, not a cartoon.

And anime are cartoons. Anime simply refers to a specific style of cartoon produced by Japanese animation. But how about we just focus on the actual article and not this pedantic and tired old argument?
