I'd be fine with more Mari if they actually give her a reason to exist in the movie beyond "sells more figures". I've always been a big fan of her design, her personality, pretty much everything about her in isolation, but in the actual movies, her inclusion has always felt a bit extraneous, and that's being generous.
The clip looks great, I really dig the transition between Mari in the cockpit and the Eva spinning around. It sells the bond between pilot and machine in a way I don't think I've ever seen, and given how many mecha shows there are out there (and how many draw heavily from Eva) I think that's pretty neat. I'm still pretty fatalistic on this movie because the last two, while pretty, never really seemed to go anywhere interesting, but here's hoping they prove me wrong...in 2020. Gdi. |

Agreed. It seems to me like they split some of the aspects of Asuka Soryu's personality and turned half into Mari and left the other half as Asuka Shinikami. Mari is cool and and all but I don't see what she adds to the story, especially since the movies are so much shorter than the TV. With that much less time for exposition and character development the last thing we need is more distractions.
Agreed with that too. Yes, they're very pretty but I found them rather meh beyond that. 2.22 was disappointing, and 3.33 even moreso. I was very excited about the new movies at first, but with each successive one I was more disappointed than the previous. absolutely nothing from the preview in 2.22 was in 3.33(and I believe half of 2.22 preview in 1.11 wasn't in the final movie either.).It's pretty clear whatever Anno had planned when he started these movies,he had long since changed his mind. |

Personally, I've felt that the 2.22 trailer footage was actually content from what occurred between 2.22 and 3.33, (maybe with content in 4.0 or pre-1.0 as well), with the story being told out of order. Intentional, improvisational spoiler[(wasn't intended to be so, but circumstances/last-minute decision-making led to a change in telling the story)], or maybe a little of both, but I'm leaning towards it being more deliberate. And I wouldn't be shocked to see that trailer content show up in 4.0 to reveal the whole story. (Hence the title "3.0 +1.0"? …Or further, for example: "3.0-3.33" = said trailer content…) |

Thanks to the dancing episode from the original series, the movements of EVA-08 don't look that odd to me. I actually want to see a synchronized dance attack of EVA-08 and EVA-02.

They're "considering legal action" for pirating a 10-second video of Mari's mech spinning around shooting the air? Also seems to have a next-level embed block where it just claims the video is broken until you click "watch on youtube." Maybe they're going to pull a "congratulations" and the fourth movie will be just 2 hours of Mari wasting bullets.
Given past experience, though, we can probably expect that Mari won't even be in this movie. |
