Perhaps that will be a good time for Zero Punctuation to do a retro review for it. I’ve heard strange things about this game, so I’ll be cautious about whether or not it will be something I’ll like.

Wait, when did killer7 get Japanese audio? I thought it had English VO in all regions.

Super-glad for this game to be getting a second shot!

I'd hesitate to call any of Suda51's games "classics", but they're definitely the best examples of "B-games" out there, and they're all interesting in the very least. That his first high-profile title is getting a re-release is great news!

i don't really know what makes you think of them as bgames. they're mostly psychological horror-cross-mysteries, far more arthouse than b

Anything to come out of Suda51's head is incredibly strange. He's something of a troll among video game creators, as he likes to mess with the people who play his game in every possible way, and not always in a way they'd like.

(For instance, in No More Heroes 1, there was a minigame in which you gather scorpions in a grassy area as a means of pest control. This was the least liked minigame because the scorpions were very aggressive, it pays a lot less than the other minigames, and your player character moves quite slowly. Suda51 heard these complaints, because in No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle, the minigame returns, only now the scorpions are even more aggressive, it pays even less, and the player character moves even slower. It becomes almsot unplayable. It's optional, however.)

But it's BECAUSE Suda51 does stuff like this that's why he has a small but quite loyal group of fans. Sales of his games indicate that Japan is where he's the least liked, though.

Oooh, fun! Maybe it'll come out for PS4 and Switch too? I personally still have my Gamecube copy.

As much as I do love Killer7 and would recommend it, it should be said that the control scheme (at least on Gamecube and PS2, though I'm going based on Gamecube knowledge here and assuming PS2's was similar) made the learning curve for this game feel like running smack into a brick wall. It's weird because once you actually get used to it, it somehow makes all the sense in the world, but getting used to it? It's so unlike any other control scheme out there that it'll take you at least the entire first chapter to begin to get used to it and probably part of the second (in a game with 7 chapters of about equal length). I can't even think of any game that's like it, control-wise or gameplay-wise, so just know to be expecting that brick wall right off the bat. I look forward to seeing people struggle with it on Twitch.
Also, I remember I found a really good in depth analysis of the game after I beat it, because SO much of the game's story is kind of like that, completely convoluted at times with symbolic randomness. Except the symbolism typically tends to mean something here.

Suda51 puts some sort of personal wish fulfillment in all of his games. Look no further than his obsession with masked wrestlers (collectibles in No More Heroes, and just Mask deSmith in Killer7). I'm honestly surprised Suda51 doesn't let the public see his true face and just hide it behind a luchadore mask in interviews and stuff (like the Nier Automata guy does with the Emil head)

That was only while promoting killer7; he's long since shown his face.

More like a wasteland :V

I actually hated the lawn mowing and recycling games. They didn't just pay less, but they were purposefully capped to allow you a certain amount. Scorpion Exterminator was feasible when you got the Memory of Child for the Technique of Bizarre, and you could dash all over the Atomic Drop Ward and even get to the manager in time if you got poisoned. Scorpion Exterminator also provided some good money when you did it right. We can all agree however Stings So Good was awful and was a watered down prettied up version of Bug Out, even with the 10,000 LB$ scorpions you could never catch.

As someone who was inspired to go into game development in my younger years, Suda51 was probably a big influence by the time I was graduating. His games are great in my eyes, and not just because they showed what was good about a game, but how features incorporated that were purposely meant to be flawed showed what didn't work. No More Heroes was my first introduction, and I enjoyed it immensely. Even for Stings So Good, that gets you to think how a 3D minigame should be great.

Killer7 is something I've merely watched, but not played, but I should give it a try sometime. It's perhaps one of the more stylish and design heavy games I've seen, and I like the political supernatural theming it has. It reminds me a lot of The World Ends With You.

NISA issued a correction notice later on Sunday stating that the game will only have English audio. We've updated the article.

I didn't even know he wore a Luchadore mask during Killer 7's promotion, tbh. But I'm more surprised that he's still not in mask mode.
