Dammit Kim! You're supposed to do things that make me hate the Kardashians, not cool things like this.

If that isn’t a clue for Toonami to pick this up...

Just a heads up for the usual "What does this have to do with anime? Damn ANN", use your head and think a bit before posting anything.

+1, Aksara.

That aside... I don't like to get conspiratorial, but it occurs to me that Sony owns both Aniplex and Funimation, and they could afford a Kardashian ad buy. On the other hand, the idea that they might see that as a worthwhile investment seems a little too wild!

Huh. Wasn’t expecting the inspiration to be Franxx. While I’m not concerned about what she does with herself or whether or not she is “really” an anime fan, picking Franxx seems indicate to me at least that this is more than just a “I love anime! Those Chinese cartoons are great!” move on her part.

Actually I would argue this proves everybody who likes Franxx has bad taste in anime.

(No it's cool, all you Franxx fans keep living your best lives. I mean I'm watching citrus week to week. Laughing)

Well since her husband Kanye seems to have some interest in anime, I kind of expected Kim might as well.

Guess I was right but I am not sure if I am happy about it...

I wonder if she actually is actually a Crunchyroll, Funimation, or VRV member.

Lol I just posted the same info on the other thread a couple hours ago too. It’s kind of surreal seeing anime fanart on a typical celebrity account, especially one I know nothing about other than her name.

Now let’s sit and wait for Kanye and Kim to do a couple cosplay as Hiro and 002. The internet would implode.

That's something I don't want to picture, but thanks for bringing that idea to my head.

Pretty rude of her to not credit the artist considering the vast amount of followers she has. And the fact that she didn't even mention the character's name or the anime is a bit dubious. I don't find this to be newsworthy at all, but apparently any negative reaction to this is dubbed as "gate-keeping" and brings "shame" to fellow anime fans, so whatever. Rolling Eyes

Honestly the gatekeeping with Kim Kardashian and anime is a little disappointing but not really much of a surprise. If you're gonna gatekeep at least be consistent about it, where were ya'll at when Samuel L. Jackson made a comment about liking anime and hentai in the Wired Google search video?

I was not expecting her to be inspired by 02 from Franxx. I do hope this doesn't cause any unwarranted draw from commentators, who go and watch Darling in the Franxx and are like "Kim Kardashian likes cartoons about teenage sex robots" and causes drama. Otherwise, I'll eat my words from the previous article.

I don't care if it's considered "gate-keeping" - in some sense, I'm proud to do it - but to me, this is absolutely terrible. I just want a hobby that doesn't end up getting name-dropped by celebrities, or used as a label in the same way comics/Star Wars/etc. are nowadays. I saw how, only a few years ago, the Western comic fandom was devastated by an influx of people who used it as a 'cool geek' kind of thing and (while the movies and merch are making money) comics themselves have suffered a ton in quality and sales since then. Between stuff like what Kim is doing and the increasing efforts of Hollywood to make an anime movie hit, I have a horrible feeling about the future.
