Very excited about this. Particularly considering how much Square Enix seems to ignore western DQ fans.

This news makes me so happy! I'm a huge minecraft fan and probably have over 300 hours on various systems and just love being able to explore and build, it's like virtual Legos without the super expensive cost and pain of stepping on one I'm the middle of the night while trying to get to the bathroom Anime hyper haha I also love the dragon quest series fell in love as a young girl with DQ8 for the ps2 but sadly it seems until recently the west has been neglected with the series =/ so I'm really glad this is coming west and can't wait to spend 100+ hours in it Anime smile

So... how well did the original Minecraft do in Japan? I'm curious, since this kind of looks like the game couldn't be accepted over there unless it was slathered in one of their biggest JRPG licenses.

Minecraft for Vita just hit over 1 million sales in Japan and if I'm reading correctly the PS3/PS4 versions also sold a combined 1,645,000 copies so minecraft has done pretty well in Japan.

Despite being about building stuff, the game isn't really like Minecraft at all. It's more like a Zelda game with Tower Defense features. It has a story, NPCs, dialog, bosses, and isn't really a sandbox like Minecraft is. Here is an example of a boss gameplay. The game has no multiplayer whatsoever, it's essentially another Dragon Quest RPG but with building and tower defense mechanics instead of turn-based combat.

But if you really wanted to, you could completely rebuild the world, right?
