I thought I heard from some people saying that it was nearing the end and it turns out to be true. alright thanks. since he's back from his hiatus with 10 chapters then I guess we can assume another Volume will be done in the future. In the past, the TV and OVA's were all started on before completion so I wouldn't be surprised if they are planning it out.

I don't think I've asked this yet, and if I have I forgot to check for the answer.

I asked a question a while back about Excel Saga, well here's another one. Has it been dropped by Viz? It doesn't appear to be in their shop, and a few months ago EVERY VOLUME of it mysteriously vanished from every store in the area that sells manga. It wasn't exactly a hot seller, so I wasn't sure what to make of that...

As far as I know Viz does not drop series. They continue selling Saint Seiya and that one sells like crap. What Viz does not do is reprint volumes that became unavailable. Add to that that stores don't like to keep holey series in stock and you enter a vicious cycle of unavailability.

Check online stores, you should be able to find Excel Saga there.

So what happens to them? They all disappeared at the same time, so I have a hard time believing it's coincidence. Are they sent to like, a warhouse, or some such, so they aren't clogging up the shelves?

And they definitely reprinted the first handful of volumes, because I have a vl.3 with the new logo, but I'm guessing they quit after vl.6, because 7 and 8 have become impossible to find. I picked a bad volume to stop on.

My guess is that the manga sold fairly well in the beginning, because of the anime, but that sales went down together with the anime's popularity.

Leftover copies are usually sent back to the distributor or the publisher. If other stores do not order those volumes, the books may end up in ramsj stores* or are left in storage until someone thinks it's time to clean up and throw everything in the shredder.

*Stores that sell leftover books with huge discounts. I don't know about other countries, but in the Netherlands we have De Slegte and Het Boekenfestijn. Het Boekenfestijn has a lot of Tokyopop manga that are fairly new. The volumes are purposely damaged with a black marker to avoid the law that prevents the ramsjing of books that are less than three years old.

They actually do that? What a terrible waste. Meanwhile we've got jokers doing this

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Excel-Saga-Volume-7/Rikdo-Koshi/p/9781591162322

and this

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Excel-Saga-Volume-8/Rikdo-Koshi/p/9781591162339

C'mon people. If you're going to overcharge for something, at least keep it reasonable.

They actually do that. Paper is easy to recycle, but a pain in the ass to keep in storage. Books take up a lot of space, but aren't very valuable.

If you think that is bad... well, it can be a lot worse. Go to Amazon.com and search for Basara 20. Certain volumes of Phoenix used to go for $130 on Ebay, until Viz finally reprinted them Anime hyper

Try e-mailing Viz. Someone on this forum had trouble finding Basara 20 and Viz was actually kind enough to send her a leftover copy!

Well, that's another problem. Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see any link on Viz's page to mail them.

Yeah, Viz's website is pretty awful, not nearly as awful as Tokyopop's, but awful nonetheless.

www.viz.com -> About -> Contant

Will get you to the contact form and contact info.

They are referred to as "remainders" in North America (possibly other English speaking book markets, but I can't say that for sure).

And yeah, about 30-40% of all books made are either remaindered or pulped.

Does anyone know when/if DMP will release Flower of Life 4? The fourth volume has been available in Japan for a while now and yet there is no releasedate on the DMP site.

In this interview from last week they say it's scheduled for release in May 2009.

My question concerns the D.N. Angel manga. It had been on hiatus since 2005 but back at the beginning of 2008 ANN reported that it was to be continued.

Since then I have heard no further updates from ANN concerning D.N. Angel. However, Wiki has said that there are currently 13 volumes out.

Tokyo Pop only has up to Vol. 11 listed.

And BarnesandNoble says it has D.N. Angel listed but it's currently out of stock.

Hopefully you can tell that I have done my homework trying to research this. But I have been unable to find the answer to a question that has been burning in my mind since 2005.

Does anyone know when Vol. 12 (and the following vol's) will be released here in the U.S.?

Thank you.

According to Amazon Japan, only 12 volumes are available in that country right now. A 13th volume may be under way, but if it was, Amazon would have it for pre-order. So, there's nothing yet to confirm that it is coming out. As for US releases, I'm not finding anything on volume 12, but they may be because the newest volume just came out in Japan, so you have to figure about 4-6 months before they release it in the States.
