I have a questions: Are they remaking the early eposoides or is it continuing from the old series?

I bought all this series from Geneon. It was really good. And it's also one of the better dubs. I agree that it deserved more press.

The full title:

はじめの一歩 新シリーズ = "Hajime no Ippo New Series"

Should be a continuation. Besides, no point restarting from the beginning.

Awesome. I haven't finished watching the original series (45 episodes and count), but this is great news. Time to get back to watching this great series. Hopefully the original staff will return for the new series. Heck, they'd BETTER return.

My boyfriend and his friends are going to be really excited about this news. Two old favourites of theirs have come back this year - Slayers, and Ippo.
The funny thing is, out of all his friends, I'm the one who's taking actual boxing lessons, and I'm the one person who doesn't care to see the show. I think I just got turned off after they threw Ippo (who didn't even know what a jab was!) into the ring with the hot-shot whiz kid. Maybe I'm just jealous because I'm still trying to learn proper technique for punching...

the is very exciting seeing as i own the whole show when geneon released it and i actively read the manga as the chapters release and I've always felt that they should really continue it from where it left off. hopefully this continuation of the anime will show ippo eventually start to challenge the world

There is only one thing that concern me about this splendid news. I am worry about the casting of the show. I want the original cast members from the first TV series to come back. Otherwise, it is going to get really hard for me to get excited.

I'm gonna stay positive though since other franchises manage to get the original cast back. I mean, look at Slayers Revolution. To get Megumi back after a long hiatus, I'm gonna say it's going to be possible that Ippo will get the same treatment.

Well guys, i must say, out of the 100+ anime series i have seen over the years, Hajime No Ippo is number 2 without a doubt. (second only to Berserk, of which is in DIRE need of a series continuation even more so) I suppose i am a little bias as i am a boxer myself, but Hajime certainly has all of the necessary components to make it an all time greats contender, and therefore the second season simply cannot fall flat. It would be a travesty if it did, and i seriously doubt it will.

Woot! I've been waiting for this! Smile

Now there's just Berserk, Bamboo Blade, Shigurui. . .

I never knew the anime was any good...I guess its probably because it wasn't long (but I guess I shouldn't judge anime by how much they did go over, look at FB, it was great, even though it was 26 episodes), I guess I might watch it (but is this a reboot or continuation?

And is there any reviews for this anime (dvd, of course)?

Unfortunately, there are no official ANN reviews aside from the Champion Road TV special, but that's after the series' end and out of the original continuity, so it won't make any sense unless you've actually watched the series.

I did try making a mini-summary a little over a year ago when someone else was asking for opinions. Maybe that can help a little.

I actually thought about making an Ippo thread in the anime forums to cover the DVD releases at one point so I could spread the love, but it's a long series and I'm lazy enough as it is covering Mushi-Shi right now. But who knows? With the announcement of this next incarnation, maybe I'll get to it and build up the hype before January, making and exciting new and current Ippo fans.

You've got to pick it up again. The series just kept getting better and better as the character and story development progressed.

Huh? 70+ episodes doesn't qualify as long?
