So, uhh, can we ignore that this exchange ever happened because I just realized that I hadn't tried doing the thing that I probably should have tried first which is removing all cookies and shit. Because I just did that and now the site seems to work fine.

I just cleared cookies, too. It will take a while to ascertain whether that solves my problem on Chrome.

eta: at the risk of "speaking too soon" the cookie clearance seems to have fixed the issue.

I cleared my Cookies for ANN, and the Windows 10 + Firefox setup seems to be going smoothly.

So I guess "Clear your Cookies" is a general solution for site-loading problems.
