Edits and ratings are plain stupid especially parents who actually follow them like my friend Tommy a while ago we wanted to go a see a movie that was rated R and his mom complained and said that he couldn't because it was unsuitable for him to see and I'm thinking the kids 16 like it really makes a difference. Another thing I can't stand is when parents won't buy a video game for a kid becuase its overaged for them. I also remember the whole stink about grand theft auto 3 because it according to people will make kids violent and how the whole prostitute thing will corrupt the youths minds. Thats why i've always apricatiated my parents because I was allowed to see any movie or play any game that I wanted regardless of whats in it.

Nah, my favorites are the stores that won't sell you a mature video game even if your sixteen. You stand there arguing waving your permit in their face stating "I'm mature enough to drive, but not play Castlevania: Lament of Innocence?!" This happened last week by the way. But the truth is he was just doing his job, so I left, gameless Crying or Very sad .

Also, putting warnings on everything bothers me. Not for the fact that they're there, but that society has forced them to put it there or be in risk of a lawsuit if something happens. People have sunk so low that we must put warnings, labels, edit, sensors, etc. on everything. Like that lady who didn't know her hot coffee was that hot so she held it between her legs as she pulled away from McDonalds. Well when the hot coffee spilled and burned her she sued McDonalds for millions because there was no warning on her coffee that it was hot. People like this are the reason that you see these sensors and warnings everywhere. No one wants to deal with any trouble, so in answer they edit, edit, edit.

The ratings are there so that parents have some idea about the content of a movie. If there weren't any rating system, then a child could be going to see a movie called (making this up) "Barney goes to Hawaii". The parent having no idea what the movies is about say ok, thinking it's about a purple dinosaur. It could be about a gangster named Barney who's going to Hawaii to kill his uncle who betrayed the mob.

Parents can't go preview every movie or TV show or Video game their kids want to see, so the rating system gives them a helping hand.

If I had kids, then I wouldn't want them playing GTA 3 until they have some maturity. Most parents know, or should know, how mature their child it, and base what that child is allowed to watch or play or read based on that.

That said, I don't believe that video games cause violence. Probably more likely that people who are violent to begin with enjoy violent video games as well. Not that non-violent people don't enjoy them either.

Ratings shouldn't be used as strict rules, but as a lose guildline to help gauge the maturity level for parents.

Ya I had stuff happen to me like that too with a resident evil game once at funcoland they kept telling me you need an adult and of course i get annoyed and argue and they have the nerve to tell you "calm down sir". Also that whole law suit about the hot coffee that was just dam stupid how did the person with coffee not know that it was gonna burn you if it spilt on you and that person had to have touched the coffee before she spilt it so she had to have known it was hot I was suprised she won that case ,must have had a retarded jury.

That's the point. She stated that she "knew it was hot, but not that hot." Either way you look at it, the lady won millions because she played stupid. Stupid people bother me.
Those types of lawsuits happen too much. I could list a few off the top of my head and I'm sure that there a many, many more than that. The fact is people are stupid and take no sense of responsibilty. Therefore companies must put warnings eveywhere.

People are alwasy trying to make easy money. You can also basically set a law suit on anyone for pretty much anything and you will probably win or at least get a settlement outside of court.

I would say you can't always blame the jury. There are a lot of retarded lawyers. Now, I don't know if those are real or not, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Yeah, they should be tied to a post near a bunch of red ant hills and beaten with bamboo stick dipped in sugar water or honey.

My understanding was that the coffee actually gave her third degree burns, in which case it was too damn hot. That or she poored it on herself and then looked at it for half an hour before doing anything. Smile

I may be thinking of another case though...

She didn't have to put it between her legs. That was the stupid move. Yeah, soda and water are one thing, but hot coffee you just bought? That's stupid. Even if it was just barely hot it would have hurt and she still probably would have sued and won.

These parents nowadays need to watch You're Under Arrest Ep. 20 - "Fight, Traffic Combat Team OB3." Yes, I just saw it the other day but it makes a good point. Wink Kids need to see what is wrong, be taught why it is wrong and that is how they learn what is right. Censorship just gives whiny, unresponsible parents someone to put the blame on.

Craeyst, you should run for office. I might actually vote then. Very Happy

Erm... it's too bad people pick on you, but none of these examples really have much of anything to do with 4Kids editing Yu-Gi-Oh, probably with the full approval of the Japanese licensor, to be suitable for broadcast on North American children's television. In fact, they're kind of non sequiturs. See, the thing is, Yu-Gi-Oh is a children's cartoon show in Japan too, perhaps with a few darker elements considered too "occult" to air on Kid's WB "intact" without a lot of people getting upset at what their children are watching, but, still, it isn't aimed at a substantially older audience in Japan. So, as such, the kids that don't like Yu-Gi-Oh as it is aired on North American television now and find the show babyish won't like it any more than they do now even if they were somehow exposed to the intact version. Some people will always be jerks, what can I say?

Heh, I love this topic, it's really easy to tell who's an adult and who's a kid. The kids are the ones complaining about things being edited and rated (and doing a really poor job at that), and the adults are the ones telling them they're wrong and why.

Now if Barney the purple dinosaur did that, I'd be a number one fan! Laughing

After the first or second time, wouldn't you stop playing it at school?

Asaqe wrote:

Just ignore the disses and play the game.

Asaqe wrote:

Again, just ignore them.

Ah yes this, I went through this with Pokemon. But, if you don't want them picking on/bulling you, the just don't mention the game around school anymore. I liked Barney up until fourth grade, never told anyone, and since no one knew, no problems. Just say you stopped playing the game or something like that.

That is very true. But, no matter what anyone says, there will always be edits and ratings, end of story.

If you really want something that you can't get because it's MA (like GTA3), find an friend that's over 18, or if the friend's parents that you already have are really nice, give them the money to get it for you. Or you could do the same with your parents. No big deal.

I dont see magic: the gathering card players ever get poked fun of, if you look at the cards they are very butchured as much as the show to attract kids I dont people editing magic: the gathering cards. Good examples are the destiny board, it was changed from death to final(damn upperdeck) they call demons fiends, turn guns into somewhat star trek weaponry and tries to cover up the cards. 4kids as a result of lincesing YGO has singlehandly destroyed what remains of my life

I read in the December issue of Reader's Digest that a man who had his named legally changed to Mr. Jack Ass tried to sue MTV for having a show with a similar name. Mr. Ass wanted $10 million.
