Certainly not the best outcome but not the worst either. At least it didn't set Canadian law further into the stone age with any unnecessary precedents. Still waiting for someone to take up the several year legal battle required to challenge McLachlin's inclusion of lolicon as cp.
Glad to see he wasn't outright screwed over as a result of our backwards legal system and the new punishments aren't that strict. |

Did they ever actually say what manga it was they found on his computer? Maybe I'm being overly cynical, but I keep expecting it to be something that it would be totally ridiculous to call "child porn", like One Piece or something...

I've also wondered how exactly they got him to open his computer and allow them to go through it.
Was it on his desktop background? If it was stored in a file somewhere on his pc, I find it very hard to believe they took all that time to open one computer and go through it. Why was he picked out of the customs line, searched and ultimately have his computer searched. Is there somewhere we can read the whole case and all the why/how/who/what/where details? |

Canadian Customs is, for any reason at all, allowed to look through any electronic devices you bring into the country and take a copy of its contents. You can take a look here to see the latest information on what the CBSA are capable of (based off the latest public information that was obtainable). Yes, there had to be something that tipped them off but, the moment you get pulled aside for a closer inspection, you lose a lot of rights. |

I am disgusted at this caricature of criminal justice and ashamed to be represented by individuals that champion this inane waste of resources.

I just made a donation~.
Sadly, there are many creeps who think that wasting money prosecuting people over naughty naughty drawings is a good use of resources, as good as helping real children. |

Glad to see that he isn't actually facing any criminal charges.
To say that "Naked fiction loli characters is CP!" is just as bad as "Video games makes people violent!". Whats next, eating apples will make you more evil?

For a person who likely is quite smart (given that he is a engineer) he sure has done something quite dumb. Wow, that is just crazy. But even crazier, is that chargers were dropped. Just because manga characters aren't real, given that they are depicted as real people, it's still one in the same. This is especially the case if the characters look like kids or are in fact kids in the manga. Out of every profession, someone who does software engineering should that pretty well. What a world we live in. |

Common sense would tell me when travelling to another country, don't take chances & don't bring anything that makes you stand out. Including images on electronic devices. You are in someone else's land, and all rules you know about from where you live are out the window. Squeaky clean is my rule of thumb when traveling across borders. |
