Disney+ in U.K. Adds Macross 7 and Macross Zero

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Both anime are only available in subtitled forms.

Disney+ in the UK has added the Macross 7 TV series from 1994, as well as the five-part miniseries Macross Zero, released in 2002. As with the other Macross anime on Disney+, these titles are only available in subtitled versions.

The episodes of Macross 7 (pictured right) on Disney+ include three episodes that were originally not broadcast on TV. These three episodes were instead released as an OAV called Macross 7 Encore. On Disney+, the three episodes are put at the end of the series, designated episodes 50 to 52.

Macross 7 has been described by Nozomi Entertainment:

"It is the year A.D. 2045. The seventh New Macross-class vessel, Macross 7, home to over one million inhabitants, journeys in search of habitable planets. Having departed Earth seven years earlier, the fleet is continuing on its journey when its flagship is suddenly attacked.

"Meanwhile, at an outdoor venue in a park in Macross City, the rock band FIRE BOMBER has just started its opening set. The band's lineup includes passionate lead vocalist and guitarist, Basara, bassist and singer, Mylene (the seventh daughter of Max and Milia Jenius), the laid-back founding member and keytarist, Ray, and on drums, the Meltran of few words, Veffidas.

"Their gig is just starting to go off when things are interrupted by the attack on the fleet. What is the identity of the mysterious enemy fleet and the true purpose of their attack? The inhabitants of Macross 7 are soon caught up in a nightmarish conflict, the likes of which they could never have imagined."

Macross Zero debuted in 2002 to celebrate the Macross franchise's 20th anniversary, and serves as a prequel to the first Macross anime. Anime Limited has described Macross Zero as follows:

"Taking place one year before the Zentradi arrive on Earth, Macross Zero chronicles a key conflict between the U.N. Military and the Anti-Unification Alliance during the Unification War. After being shot down by the anti-U.N.'s newest fighter plane, ace pilot Shin Kudo finds himself on the remote island of Mayan, where technology is almost non-existent. While Shin stays on the island to heal his wounds, the tranquility of the island is shattered by a battle that involves the UN's newest fighter - the VF-0."

The UK version of the Disney+ platform is also screening:
