Koei Tecmo Reveals New Samurai Warriors Game Focused on Sanada Yukimura
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Koei Tecmo Games revealed the Sengoku Musou ~Sanada Maru~ (Samurai Warriors: Sanada Maru) video game on Thursday. Omega Force is developing the tactical action game, and Koei Tecmo Games plans to ship the game in Japan this year for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita in both physical and downloadable editions.
Confirmed characters in the game include Sanada Yukimura as a child (voiced by Yuka Saitou) and as an adult (voiced by Takeshi Kusao), and Yukimura's father Sanada Masayuki (voiced by Kenta Miyake). The game will cover the 48 years of Yukimura's life.
Koei Tecmo Games will reveal the game's release date as well as the first look at gameplay during a Niconico livestream event on August 4.
NHK is currently airing a 50-episode live-action television series also titled Sanada Maru about the life of Sanada Yukimura. The 400th anniversary of the summer campaign of the siege of Osaka — a battle in which the real-life Sanada Yukimura took part (and the battle in which he died) — was last year.
The Sengoku Musou ~Sanada Maru~ game will utilize the same "Full CG Map" that the television drama is using to depict Warring States-era Japan.
CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara franchise is also developing a game based on Sanada Yukimura's life, titled Sengoku Basara: Sanada Yukimura-Den (Sengoku Basara: The Legend of Sanada Yukimura). The "first longform drama" game in the Sengoku Basara game franchise will chronicle the life of Sanada Yukimura, and will also tell the "hidden destiny" of Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune at the summer encampment of Osaka. The game is slated to ship in Japan on August 25 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
