I thought it was a reference to Megazone. |

I have to agree that out of these heavy re-writes Sgt. Frog is the best. While it does have a lot of meta humor, its also missing something that a lot of these newer rewrites have. Toilet humor aimed at 10 year olds. From what I saw of Milk-Chan I couldn't decide which was worse the japanese version which is entirely dependant on japanese references, or the american version which was entirely dependent on swear words and toilet humor.

Cool to hear from Bosch, the intro was hilarious. Seems like a nice guy. Come to Saboten!
Anyway, great episode, it's great to see you guys consistently recording. |

I must completely agree about the Evangelion dub. That's usually my example of one of the worst English anime dubs in history, in part because I didn't appreciate the acting and in part because they removed all the subtlety and did some editing that changed the nature of the show. I do like the dub Evangelion: 1.0 better than the old series dub, but I am disappointed that they got Spike Spencer back to play Shinji. I'm not familiar enough with the voice actors available to recommend someone for the role, but he's the one thing I disliked about the new movie. He has talent as an actor (as demonstrate here), but people need to stop casting him in kiddie roles; his strained high-pitched attempts at a younger voice great on the ears terribly.

The ADV music intermission was a fun touch. I almost expected you guys to segue into the "What is Anime?" promotional audio.
Cool episode and continue to enjoy the topical discussions. I especially like that it's not a super-serious slanted feature - the mix of comedy, news and commentary work very well. These are quickly becoming one of my favorite features of this site. JYB provided a lot of fun material this week to boot. Wait wait wait... Zac has NEVER gotten face-to-face insulting criticism or back-handed compliments?
I call BS. |

In JYB's defense, it's the people who cast dubs that are responsible for using the same VAs over and over again. I don't blame him for taking any job that comes his way, nor did I intend to seem like I was.
I just wanted to know how he felt about it, and be a little cheeky by asking it to somebody I hear a lot. If it had been Crispin Freeman, Steven Blum, or Wendee Lee, I'd ask the same question (actually, had it been Wendee Lee, I'd ask about that e-mail she sent me based on something I said here). I think the worst dub I've ever heard is likely the dub for the original Bubblegum Crisis, but I agree with you wholeheartedly about the Neon Genesis Evangelion dub. It's like they went out of their way to make the characters unsympathetic. I tolerated it years ago, but once I heard the Japanese version for the first time, I realize I misunderstood a lot of the characters based on their annoying English voices. Still, that Bubblegum Crisis dub. Dear god, it's like they didn't even try. My favorite English dubs I may have spoken about somewhere. Ahaha, "Botch". |

I agree. He seemed like the nicest guy ever. I was kinda expecting him to sound a bit more exasperated or jaded with the fandom.
Also, props to how you guest handle your guests. It's refreshing to finally hear interviews that trodge through the same ten questions they hear all the time. Good show. |

I hope this doesn't come across as insulting but Bosch sounds so spaced out (but in a good way). I bet he'd be fun to just hang out with and shoot the shit.
I thought it was a reference to Ghost in the Shell. But then I remembered that's Section 9. Then I was sad because I don't know as much about GitS as I thought. |

Zac is entirely right on the thing about the anime convention showing of Sgt. Frog.
The room that showed it sunday morning at Otakon, full of laughs and honestly, I myself was laughing. Honestly though, I enjoyed it much more than the Shin-chan dub. You wanna talk about forced laughter? Look at that show. Frog is still easily amusing though. I'm not surprised Zac didn't like it but I enjoyed the first five episodes I saw at Otakon... Bosch! Lots of interesting things I learned but honestly, I gotta say that as much as these guys are awesome, I think the over the top fans are not painful only to the voice actors, but... I dunno, it just seems odd. I'd like to just sit down and chat it up with an actor, maybe know what kind of stuff they're into... I mean, it's hard to expect people to believe me, but even around the japanese celebrities, all I wanna do is give them my appreciation of their work and that's pretty much it. I might have another question or two related to their field of work, like I did at Otakon with Mary E. McGlynn (I asked her about prefered roles in the .hack series) but I think it'd be nice to just hang out and chat about random stuff... TV, games, movies, random stories or experiences... I think things people tend to forget at these conventions is that these people are just like the rest of us. It's fine to have respect for them but keep it under control. That's all I got to say... And to JYB, if he ever read this forum topic (Though I doubt he will) I've enjoyed quite a few of your recent video game roles. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would so I guess I'll actually start listening to episodes. |

You've made me a bit embarrassed about it, but I thought Sgt Frog was hilarious. I was watching the streams on Funimation's website before you posted it here and it really reminded me of a kinda off-color version of Invader ZIM, which I loved, so I was laughing my butt off the whole way through. Guess I have no taste in comedy...

Where was this said again? Someone mentioned this in one of the existing discussion threads, but it's not in the press release available here on ANN or on ADVfilms.com? Also, where was it said that the business entity known as AD Vision/ADV Films is shutting down? That's not stated in the press release either. |
