Vastly expensive though it may be, at least you can split the ring amongst two bearers to effectively halve the price tag. (Given a suitable pretence, the cost-cutting measure could even be parlayed as a symbolic gesture!)

That ring is genius in regards to weddings. If your spouse dies you take his/her ring and use it yourself until you're willing to pass it on. It can also be used to signal that you're looking for a life partner in a way, if the culture grows custom to it.
