Well the film still passed PONYO's overall gross in America, so it's still the most successful Ghibli U.S. film in America. So it's not all bad.

I'm guessing The Lorax just ate the lionshare of its audience this weekend.

That's a significant drop for a 2nd to 3rd weekend............

At the Walmart earlier today, at the checkout line where they each have LCD screens running commercials, they showed the commercial ad for Arrietty. So, the promos are out there. Laughing

DING DING DING.

Arrietty was puttering along as a nice option for families until The Lorax came along.

Hitting 20 million is the goal here. Might be a tough sprint from here on out.

I just saw Arrietty this weekend (with my whole family—a total of 8)! But there were only like two other groups in the theater watching it with us. I was a little sad to see that, but the movie itself was soooooo lovely and wonderful, every moment of it! I just want everyone to be able to go and enjoy it!

Not to mention Fox News' unintentional promotion of it, because of the news report stating how it's propaganda against the 1% :p Fox News, I thank you for helping to promote this film! It's the one good deed you've done...

Shel: Yeah, I think the reason Disney didn't reduce the theater count significantly, as it had in the past, was it hoped it could ride off of that Lou Dobbs comment.

Anyway, the drop sucks, but the weekend numbers are still better 'n' those for Ponyo. So let's just keep hoping Arrietty will be in theaters long enough to beat YuGiOh.

Wow, it's pretty close to beating Pokemon 3 and being #4 grossing anime film in the U.S. That should happen without a hitch.

may be a significant drop from last week but remember that at the same time Ponyo was $5.7m behind in terms of gross, so it could just be a case of most people who wanted to see it already have

also, cinema going numbers are lower these days, even in the 3 years since Ponyo numbers have dropped alot so a drop off this big isn't too suprising

I took my mom to see it this afternoon. The theater was empty, except for three teen girls.
