As I was re-reading Hellsing for the third time, there were a shocking number of incidents where a particular scene would cause me to get the chills out of the sheer badassery of it (I'm sure this kind of reaction could result from romantic scenes as well, though). For example, when Seras grabs Zoran's face and rubs it down the length of a wall, or when Alucard crashes a plane into Rip van Winkle's ship. Of course, those are two examples out of many, as Hellsing is filled with awe-inspiring moments.
Is this a normal occurance for you manga readers? Or am I just waaay too into it? What scenes in manga have caused you to get the chills?

Volume 18 of Monster, when Johan sits up in bed when Tenma is visiting him
The anime version of that was great too.

There are a few manga stories which were really, really creepy at the time I saw them. One of them was the basis for The Guinea Pig Series gore videos called "Flower Of Flesh And Blood." I don't even think I can actually discuss the comic here, but its ideas were fairly gruesome and the style it was drawn was very much in an "underground/independent" style (i.e., no big/saucer eyes, cute noses and little mouths, etc).
The second is from Utatane Hiroyuki's Yuuwaku. Strangely enough, this compilation was edited and censored, but they still brought over "Kurenai"/"Crimson: The Other Tears Of A Woman." The anime version of this never made it to the US.
Another story was a part of series titled Emblem, which was translated back 1994 by Antarctic Press/Venus Comics. One of the stories in particular was very unnerving; it was called "Blue Catalyst." I actually think the endnote to that story was inserted by the editor or translator to soften the cold-blooded ending. It's disturbing stuff, to say the least.

Sounds like some intense stuff. I've been on the search for some more obscure horror so this very helpful

Yeah, the Monster manga had lots of moments like this. Around volume 9 or 10 when Johan looks at Tenma while he's aiming his sniper rifle at him gave me the chills.

OH YEAH! Your avatar reminded me! BERSERK. That manga had chill-inducing moments abound. Like somewhere around volume 8-9 when Guts takes down an army of guys. Pretty brutal stuff there.

Not "chilling," but I liked Takahashi Rumiko's Ningyo No Kizu/Ningyo No Mori (i.e., the mermaid stories), which had a pretty cool supernatural folklore air about them as well as Kusunoki Kei's "Ogre Slayer."
It's too bad only 2 volumes were translated in favour of the crap they're translating now.

Yeah Berserk had a lot of those there was one part that went past giving me the chills and pretty much just made me stare blankly at the manga in horror. Around volume 13, I think you know what it is, haha.

Unfortunately, I'm not even sure if I got there. It's so damn expensive, like $15 a volume. Hopefully I'll be able to continue it in the future

Ah okay, glad I didn't spoil it then. Yeah, I feel your pain, they're really expensive. It's definitely worth following though. If you don't feel like finishing the series, then at least up until around volume 14.

Otsuichi and Kendi Oiwa's GOTH. Horror and psychological manga outside of Monster has never done anything for me, but then I stumbled across this little gem a couple years ago via scanlations. The art is fantastic, and it along with the story's pacing just pulls you in. The story is completely frakked up but I couldn't put it down, and it was a true page clincher wondering just what you'd be faced with next as you tuned the next page of the story to their weird, little, morbid world. I don't remember the last time I had so much fun with a manga of the horror genre... might have last been years ago with Uzumaki, but that one just got weird after a while. Either way I only wish there was more to it than more than one volume, and when Tokyopop announced the GOTH license I was practically doing cartwheels and went out of my way to make sure I preordered it.

I'll definitely try to! That's the problem with Dark Horse.

Well, I have something. I'm not sure it counts as chilling, but let's just say I was not expecting it. I know there are some that dislike the Trigun manga, but in Trigun Maximum vol. 4 page 18, the entire page is filled with Knives' face, wearing an extremely angry expression. His face is shaded in shadows, and his eyes are just white slanted balls. I wish I had a picture so y'all know what I'm talking about, but yeah when I read it for the first time, I turned the page and did not expect that.

When I do get them, It's only in my fingers. Like, they get ridiculously cold while I'm reading. It seems to make up for any lack of emotion I have while reading...
It usually happens during a finale or climax...
