When I watch a new episode, I look at the episode count and think "How the hell has the series lasted this long?" then I shrug my shoulders and think "Screw it, I'm enjoying this".

Also a slight nit-pick:
Quote:
it effects things when the art and animation aren't up to snuff

Shouldn't it be affects not effects?

I didn't read the manga, but I don't get all the hate the Beelzebub anime has gotten from people. Its funny, has good characters and an enjoyable story. I hope it goes on for a while.

Indeed. While it's not the most dramatic work, it's thoroughly enjoyable.

I think one issue some viewers will have when approaching this work is Baby Beel and his lack of clothes. I remember there was quite a fuss on some forums I go on when Beel was on the front cover of Weekly Shonen Jump, as "Zomg - baby penis!" and that was for some people, their first exposure to the series. I've even had this in real life when I would have friends over and my little brother, who was really young at the time, would walk in naked and it would completely shock them. Also, there was some talk when The Simpsons Movie came out and there was that one brief scene where you saw Bart's penis, yet the film was a PG (not like it looked anything like an actual drawn penis, but you know people these days).

In fact, I wonder if the prominence of Beel's lack of clothing is why the series hasn't been licensed yet (heck, wasn't a big joke in a recent episode about spoiler[Beel being trapped in Oga's body and constantly trying to take off his clothes]?). If so, it is a shame, because I would love to own the series on DVD or BD.[/i]

I thought the first season had an interesting premise, but overall was weak. Mainly because they kept recycling the same gags. However, after that I thought the show improved and we got more variety. Visually its not great and they are obviously doing it on the cheap, but over time its become entertaining and fun for me. Its something I watch when I need a break from other shows.

the reason is because the anime has alot of filler remember the shocking at the begining? all filler it only happened once or twice in the manga at the begining and the anime also had alot more filler though im one of those type of people who dont mind fillers as long as their not from a certain ninja anime with a loud mouth jumpsuit wearing orange hair 16 year old. anyway the animation in beelzebub sucks the only times it had good animation was during oga vs toujou and everything beyond the vollyball match surprisingly but the vollyball match was absolutely terrible. the art however is much better its alot like the mangas art my only complaint is aoi isnt as cute as she was in the manga but thats a really minor complaint. still i think the anime could handle the comedy parts much better but certain parts are hard to translate into anime but i admit ogas sieyuu is a freaken riot. Ryu: The anime series probably hasn't been licensed, because they don't know when it's gonna end. The manga's title might be a marketing issue for Viz, but they kept it in Bakuman. [Though they could just shorten it to "Beel" if that's a problem.] Also, apparently, Japan's got plushies of the naked baby....

i too have never understood the hate for the anime, the filer isnt bad either, it actualy does good with fitting with the story.

for others, they just like the manga authors art better than the anime, which is understandable.

anyways overall it really is well done, as mentioned earlier it does have filler between episodes to pad out the run time, but it isnt too distracting and adds to the show, on some episodes they do edit some scenes, for example: baby beel has this bed wetting problem, and if not stopped, will flood the earth. oga doesnt like this, so he ends up tying the you know what, to keep it from spilling, in the anime they invent a device to keep the holy urine store: the "peebegone".

as for full on episode fillers, there has only been 2 currently, that are airing now that im aware of.

The naked baby isn't a barrier to licensing per-se, but it's definitely an issue with getting the show on TV.

They went so far as to actually produce two versions of the show: The normal one and one where Beel wears a diaper.

I have no idea how they deal with the naked baby jokes in the latter part. Maybe they just animated a couple episodes of it for sales.

Eventually they'll probably stop searching for a TV deal and Viz or someone could pick it up.

I think if that is a reason then its kinda crazy. I mean you got chicks with their boobs hanging out getting sliced and diced (Freezing) that's been licensed and then we've had a release of a show where one girl contemplates having 100 sex partners (Yamada's First Time) and a naked baby is going to set off an uproar? If it is the case I don't know whether to LOL or shake my head. People are funny that way.

I doubt that it is actually a liscensing problem, however I would like to point out freezing was only simulcasted last time I checked and yamada actually got an A- overall for the dubbed version, so it's actually got some weight to it.
I think the fair bigger problem is that it is popular in japan and not really popular her in the US (last I saw it was doing well for crunchy but that is for worldwide views not US views). the other major problem is that it is a LONG running show. I don't think it has any plans to end soon, and unless you are fairytail or DBZ no one really wants to take that chance with a show that could end horribly for them in terms of sales. (thus the reason why only now the gintama movie is getting a dub and not the TV series despite insane numbers on crunchyroll).

My point was that there are plenty of shows that are fan-servicy or have other objectionable content that gets licensed and that this show is nothing like that so it would be surprising to me that this would be a barrier to licensing. As far as Freezing I said it was licensed (for DVD & BD) not released which means that funimation has some confidence that it might sell. Here is the ANN article showing that it was licensed: here As far as Yamada goes, its the premise that I'm talking about. Young girl wants 100 sex partners, that's going to raise some eyebrows. All this was meant to demonstrate that there are plenty of shows being released with far more risque themes and content which means this should not be a reason for keeping Beelzebub from being licensed.

I think this is probably closer to the real reason. Heck I saw plenty of posts with anime viewers getting weirded out by a naked baby which doesn't speak well for its popularity.

I think it has to do with popularity like you mentioned above more than length. I mean One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, DBZ not short. But I wouldn't call Yu Yu Hakusho, FMA: Brotherhood, Eureka Seven, Blood+ and many others abnormally short either. I think companies like Funimation try to do some market research and get feedback from fans. If fans aren't clamoring for it and streaming numbers aren't high enough its going to reduce the chance of a show being licensed.

cencorship is funny buisness isnt it? it has been mentioned somewhere, (dogasu's backpack) that you can have a gun on a kids program, but if its on for more than 10 seconds than that is too long. aso something htat was acceptable may not fy later on.

during hte 90's anytime little goku stripped down to his gory, they would digitally add underwear to him, which was fine, its tv after all.

For anyone who dosn't understand some of the hate beelzebub gets, I'll tell you why: alot of the people who hate it have probaly read the manga like I have and they know full well that this adaptation isn't living up to par AT ALL.

I seriously don't care if the anime is EVER liscened OR picked up after it ends(is slated to end in april I've heard.) all I want is the manga, its funnier, it makes alot more sense and its all around just the better way to get into beelzebub. not that any of the people here at ANN will view it due to their policies but oh well, Maybe a company will slap a diaper on beel or something and we can get the manga here, and if its translated right (apparently people didn't like how reborn! was done, but I have only heard about it I haven't read it.) many will see how great beelzebub really is.
