Anime Marathon Discussion (Nov. 6th, 2015 - Nov. 15th, 2015) starts here

----------------------------------

I'll just say this, middle+ episodes of the series spoilers here, possibly even later so don't read unless you've watched this(or don't care).

spoiler[This is my second time watching and I'm enjoying it even more than the first time. As most long running action shows, this must have filler, right? I always thought the whole psychic thing after the dark tournament was filler, but it has been awhile since I've watched and now back to these episodes I'm a bit lost. The story is very interlocking with Sensui.

Was genkai brought back to life in the manga? I mean, it was a huge story chunk in the dark tournament, and she was given just a temporary possession of Yusuke's spirit animal to help him after her death. Then at the beginning of this next arc, Genkai walks back after the team's trial against the first three psychic's and Koenma gives a 2 second "oh yeah I brought her back to life". It seems terribly done...

Also, is there more to the story than is animated?
I know Kenshin never finished in animated form, and HxH didn't as a tv anime(if the OVAs even finished everything, I didn't watch).]

Yes, YYH is a good series, isn't it? I hope this helps...
spoiler[
Actually, there is basically no new filler (none that isn't in the manga). Everything after the Dark Tournament happened in the manga, too.

Genkai did indeed come back to life, she was there before they left the island. At the beginning of Chapter Black, Botan explains that Younger Toguro requested that Koenma hold onto the body. In case Yusuke won the fight. That way he would get his wish.

In the beginning, several things that happened before Yusuke came back were cut out. Most of the fights of the Makai Tournament were not shown in the manga. Those are perhaps, in some ways, replacements for some other things that happened at the end, for example the fight between Hiei and Mukuro.

In a way, the end of the anime and manga can be pieced together (in my opinion), forming a whole story.]

I've only watched the anime series and not the manga but I think the ending of the anime series is quite satisfying.....

I agree. Yu Yu Hakusho may be one of the few series where the anime is better than the manga... It was a pretty good ending, while the manga rushes it. Also, we get more action, which is the focus of almost the entire series. I can't stop myself from loving Hiei and Mukuro's fight. It had a nice ending in and of itself.

Yeah it really is a great series. I appreciate it a lot more now and being more "picky" of animation and art than before, I can say that I'm very happy with the show in that respect too.

spoiler[Does Botan not explain this for awhile or is Genkai handled much better in the manga? She hasn't talked about it thus far and Genkai has already been around for a handful of episodes. I can't remember enough details though, maybe she does go over this later. Kind of annoying she was just brought back and thrown in at the start. Seems a little too strong and confident in herself too. Even though she has incredible training and experience, I'd think she would be weaker overall(but I'm only at the beginning of Chapter Black, I kind of forget later on if she handles anything tougher so maybe I'm wrong here)

Your last point, you mean before Yusuke came back from Demon world after that tournament, more things had happend in the manga? Not too big of a deal if I miss little things, I may read over it or not, I was mainly just interested if there was a lot of backstory or even something after the end of the anime I was missing out on.

]

Thank you for the answers. Guess I should have changed the title to "questions", I started adding more after I initially made it.

No, at the very beginning of the series, the anime ignores about two volumes worth of episodic stuff before Yusuke comes back to life. It's just him helping out some random ghosts, people, or other things. Some of them were kind of cute or amusing, but nothing remotely important was lost.

I was actually pretty angry when they spoiler[brought Genkai back to life. yeah, she was murdered, but she knew she was risking her life going into battle, she'd passed on her legacy, and she was old. She wasn't even necessary in Chapter Black; that should have been a time for Usuke to show off his new skills. The Dark Tournament was really the turning point for him and his abilities, and bringing Genkai back after all the pain everyone suffered was a slap in the face. ]

Yeah that's why I thought it was so weird, rainbow. spoiler[I did really like her as a character, the entire series is filled with great ones, but it just seemed better to let her go.]

I've had my questions answered but now after watching the series for a second time, it is without a doubt my favorite long action series. I forgot how much I laughed at the show. Really loved the english cast for this one minus a few roles. The last episode wraps everything up so nicelyspoiler[and the second to last, the last episode set in demon world, is so awesomely unexpected the first time. I loved being slapped with "Yusuke loses!" and while he does, he kind of doesn't with what he accomplished.] I just am able to see such nice differences in each arc, even though they boil down to some kind of "tournament" style fighting, it's not what each is only about.

My only other problem with the ending was how rushed the Demon World tournament felt. I mean, I know they basically covered a lot with the Dark Tournament, but there were so many opportunities and after Chapter Black spoiler[Usuke's awakening], and Raizen, it was kind of a letdown. I think I heard that the series was too long so they had to cut a bunch of the Demon World tournament out. But that last episode and spoiler[the kiss] were gold. Yay! spoiler[an actual romantic conclusion to a shounen series!]
