I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the Samurai Champloo OST releases: Masta, Playlist, Departure, Impression.

I find Nujabes' work brilliant. As a huge fan of hip hop - true, thoughtful hip hop, not the garbage heating the airwaves - I was impressed with Nujabes' ear for beats ranging from soulful (check "No Way Back") to bubbly ("First Samurai") to laid-back ("Breeezin'") to vicious ("Death Wish"). His range is phenomenal, prompting me to give his other work a listen. The stuff I've heard is exquisite.

It's great to see Nujabes turn in quality music from start to finish. I can find only a handful of weak tracks throughout the soundtrack, and that is saying something considering the lack of effort exhibited by so many hip hop sellouts today.

What are your thoughts on the OST releases? Again, you can color me impressed.

For the sound tracks I only own Impression and Departure. From what I've heard I enjoyed, listening to the tracks was a refreshing experience from the western hip hop scene which has gone "south" literally (souther snap reference, get it?). It'd be nice if I could find more of his work. So far though for my hip hop tastes I'm looking way back in to the 80s and early 90s.

I usually only listen to music on youtube when I'm at home, haha. I did come across some of nujabes work from my friend, and I like what I've heard so far. Sam cham is what made me aware of his music, and it was very enjoyable.

I do agree, the soundtrack of Samurai Champloo is a feast for the ears - just like the OSTs of Cowboy Bebop (Yoko Kanno) and Ghost in the hell: Stand Alone Complex (Yoko Kanno).

Have you listened to the other albums that are partly related to Samurai Champloo?

-> Midicronica - #501
The final ending theme of episode 26 "San Francisco" is only to be found on this album.

-> Hydeout Productions - Second Collection
In episode 11 "Counting Starts" is played where Jin helps Shino to escape her and to start a new life on the other side of the river.

-> Ikue Asazaki - Utabautayun
"Obokuri-Eemui" is the one of episode 14 when Mugen sinks slowly into the deep ocean.

Samurai Champloo's OST is just awesome, the rhythms are very cool and catcher. It fits perfectly.
