Who else out there likes to draw their own manga (or, rather, manga-style)? I used to draw stick-figure Comix, but after taking a few art classes I started my own. I draw a comedy series now, which seems to be most popular at my school. Are there others out there, or am I just alone on a planet inhabitet by lemurs, platipi, and the color yellow?

No way are you along - there's me. ; ) I've been trying to draw comics since the sixth grade (I've graduated High School). I"m attempting to put something together now for actual publication.

Awesome! If you don't mind, what genre do you draw? I'm working on an "action epic," if you will, as well as a dark drama. However, it seems that that the comedy about my school gets the most feedback.

I've found comedy to be the biggest pull at my school. I love when people enjoy my comics.

So far, I've mainly been working in the fantasy genre. Swords, armour, that kinda stuff. After doing several rip-off series of course... Confused But I've come up with a bunch of fantasy stories, tho' I haven't worked on them. I've been working on my latest project since October of last year tho', so it' all cool.

I've even sold some copies of it at school. : )

I tried to start a really violent chibi-style manga, but I can't draw chibi well, and the whole point was to have kiddy looking characters going at it Battle Royale-style. The main character had a really violent looking sword with a smiley face on it and that looked really cool.

Now I'm working on a PC dating sim in the style of Tokimeki Memorial, but I can't draw girls well, so if anyone wants to help please IM or e-mail me.

I hope to one day get around to drawing a manga of my own, but for now I need to improve my style. I won't start my comic untill I'm content with my drawing ability, which may take a bit longer. I'm not confident enough in being able to draw a body from tons of different angles, especially guys.

I recently picked up doing comics with my friend/co-worker, but I don't draw in manga style. I draw in Sunday Comics style and do short 4 panel comics. My friend has what looks like an attempt at manga but falls two steps short. I would appreciate it if you would check out our site that we have up with the stuff, it is www.starvedart.com, or just click the www link below. I like looking at other web-comics and I have found some rather funny ones, like Supafine, 8-bit theatre, Penny-Arcade (Well, I didn't really FIND it) and some others. I really don't plan on drawing manga style, but I do need to find someone who can for two of my stories.

Right now I distribute my comics for free at school, but the local comic shop says if I can get at least 100 people to sign a petition-like thing that they will sell it as part of their merchandise.(about 40 pages, weekly, 2 bucks a pop[I keep about $1.50 of profits])It seems like the way to go for getting your name out there, except you generally only have enough money from profits for runs to the supply store and Taco Bell. Mmm... Tacos..........

That's a f***ing rip off! Not one damn artist does 40 pages in a week for a weekly book! And they only sell for $2??!! That's a cheat!

Two things here:
1) My artwork isn't like Berserk quality or anything (Think of Excel Saga)
2) What's the price of Shonen Jump? About 5 or 6 bucks? For 300+ pages?(And that's mainstream...) I'm more interested in building a fanbase in my community before making significant profit. It helps pay for diesel for my truck and tacos for my stomach. People who know me will pay me more than I charge(say, $5). If someone sees an average comic book for $2, chances are they'll buy it at least once. If they ever begin to sell like lightning, then I'll look into cost of supplies, profit margins, etc.
*It's just a hobby of mine, like Rubik's cube or guns. I don't intend to make a living out of it.

I am also an aspiring Manga-Ka I am going to do a post graduate course at the Kyoto school of Manga art in graphic fiction. I also draw doujinshi of Read Or Die and Hellsing [no hentai] and draw in school all the time on the bus etc. I have trouble finding tools in Ireland though and have to import screen tone and manga paper from Japan. I am currently learning Japanese and at the moment working on my Read Or Die doujinshi.

Good luck to all of you guys and let's hope we all achieve our dreams!

I actually drew a cheap comic off a fan fiction my one friend wrote called Resident Duo. It turned out alright I guess, I made three copies of it to give to some friends, and, one of them lamenated it, it was cool. One girl that was friends with one of the people I gave a copy to, wanted me to draw another, so far, I got nothing. Maybe I'll do another one.....after all, I've got far too much time on my hands anyway! Very Happy
