...which basically just serves to remind that just like LoGH is not really a series for the average fan, this isn't a *release* for the average fan. And to somebody who has been following LoGH since way back when, and is now in his mid-30's or older, and quite well off financially, paying two thousand for a series they love is a bit on the steep side, but not impossible or even particularly outrageous.

Being a huge fan of LoGH, the genre that is belongs to (epic space opera?) and pretty much everything related to it. I'd be tempted, VERY tempted to buy this, but really, 2k+$ is pretty steep.

I'll raise a toast though for anyone who buys this. Prosit!

From the 10/2003 article this site posted

Quote:
The producers of LOGH would like to acknowledge receiving hundreds of email comments and pledges for the release of R1 English-Subtitled LOGH Limited-Edition DVD Boxset. While the total number of pledges so far is still somewhat short of our goal, they feel confident that the Boxset can be sold for US$1,700, not US$2,000+ (as previously speculated), provided that the goal of 1,500 pledges be met.

Never happened, as far as I know, but the point is this has ALWAYS been an expensive title, even when they were looking to sell it here.
I've seen 9 eps & I'd take it over Gundam, but I cannot afford that kind of money.
It seems to be the whole Disney idea of "retiring" titles every so often, so they're "limited" so they can be rare. This title seems to have always been treated like gold.

Why is it still so expensive, dammit. ;__; As tempted as I am, right now I can't afford to spend so much money. Dammit. (I could do without the side stories, though... )

Because it is, kind of. As far as I know, it's always been a "for fans by fans" (of the novel series) project. I heard the original OVA series has been created mostly from money raised by fan subscriptions, and it's because of this "special" status that the producers have so little interest in selling the series to commercial distributors, especially foreign ones.

Even though this has about four times as many 'masterpiece' ratings as all its other ratings combined, I don't want to watch it, because that means I'll have to see the ending, and that means I'll end up $2212 worse off Very Happy

Naa is ok, I have it all already, with english subs...

2000.00? it broke the most expensive set record of HOKUTO NO KEN that was 965.00 for the complete set.

I think the other was a nausicaa edition with the rifle on it that was around 2000.00 too.

There were always things more expensive than Fist of the North Star, as far as complete DVD boxes are concerned.

I love the absolute christ out of LOGH, but I barely have enough time for longer series nowerdays. Adding the cost, lack of subs, and lack of willingness outside of "pay upfront over two years and MAYBE you'll get a set!" basically kills any chance of me owning it, which is a damn shame because it honestly is one of the best Anime I've been like, ever.

On that note though if you can get ahold of it and watch it (while being able to understand it, of course) then do. It's a lengthy son of a bitch, but doesn't waste time.

ichido: I'm assuming Hokuto No Ken has gimmicky extra crap that they used as an excuse to jack up the price.

Anyway, I'm wondering why Tokuma doesn't just try to pawn it off on Animeigo, if they want to sell it here.

Not really. It was 26 discs with a remaster, an extras disc, and I don't think it came with anything else. It had a special box, but is was also around the 100,000 yen mark, for a TV series that age with that many eps per disc, that's a standard norm over there.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the prices are jacked up, but that Japanese DVD prices in general are higher, as you're aware.

The price is huge, but so are the contents of the box. What a dream-come-true it would be... Well, if I happen to get an extra 2000 somewhere, I'll be sure to buy it. Anime smile God, I'd REALLY like one of those. I adore Ginei.

I wonder if the japanese company would get ahold of central anime for the subtitles for this set? that would be a dream come true, not only that, they would sell the set for a thousand bucks here with english subs, with the same quality package on a limited edition...

then again...anime fans are cheap, they would still complain for it.

Im not one to talk here! the series I adore "Highschool Kimengumi" I spent $700.00 for the 3 box sets (86 episodes, 15 dvds) but then again, that series cant be found anywhere else....
