Does anyone here have Animetal Marathon V? I went to the official site and the opening Flash animation has samples of the band playing themes from Saint Seiya and Neon Genesis Evangelion (about damn time!).
I ordered mine through CDJapan, but I don't know how long I'll wait for my copy to come. |

OH MY GOD THAT IS FREAKING FABULOUS!!!! There's a little bit o' Metallica thrown in at the beginning, too, huh? You damn skippy I'll be ordering this bad chicken!
Finally, my dream of anime songs being covered by metal bands will be realized. I...I think I'm going to shed cold, black tears... |

*Wonders if that cool punk version of the Cruel Angel Thesis of Eva is on this*

The only punk versions I know of were done by American groups: H2O and I THINK Nerf Herder.

Well, the H2O version, I know, is in Japanese. Can't say much for the Nerf herder one, though, because I've only heard of it, not actually heard it.

With my rudementary Japanese skills, I can see that track 40 is indeed Cruel Angel Thesis from Evangelion. hmm, track 17 is the Lupin III theme. I don't recognize too many others, but my Japanese isn't good either. Maybe someone else can translate. |

While you're at it, you should pick up Animetal's earlier albums. I've been an animetal fan since 1998 and I have every one of their CDs. Most of their stuff is old-school, but the band has some of the best headbanging anime tunes ever recorded. |

Nerf Herder is pretty bad ass as it is, with great songs like Love Sandwich, and Cashmere, but them covering EVA's Cruel Angels Thesis?!? That rules all!
What's next, Taking Back Sunday covering the Heart of Sword from Kenshin? Hmmm... that would actually rock. |

I might just have to do that. Do they have any domestic releases, or are they import only? |

Import only. The farthest they've gone outside Japan is Asia with the 1998 CD This Is Japanimetal Marathon (a compilation of tracks from Animetal Marathon, Animetal Lady Marathon and some of their maxi-singles). |

Good News: I got my Animetal Marathon V CD today (huge props to CDJapan). I've played 3/4 of it on my car stereo and I must say that I'm very impressed. It may not be as fast-paced as Animetal Marathon IV, but it covers more anime and tokusatsu titles that I'm familiar with.
A full report with a translation of the playlist should be available later on. |

Isn't Tough Boy (Hokuto no Ken) already as metal as you can get? I've always loved the song because of the heavy guitars! The song was what I listened to on new years 1990

I haven't heard the original version yet. Of course, I asked myself the same question with "Pegasus Fantasy," but upon listening to the CD, I realized that Animetal's version has louder guitars and less of the '80s glam-rock taste of the original. And to answer questions concerning the band's version of "Zankoku na Tenshi no Te-ze": It's not the punk versions found online. Animetal's version sounds pretty lively, but when you compare it to the other songs, it's kind of tame. EDIT: Just listened to the original version. Much like "Pegasus Fantasy," Animetal put in more guitars and heavier vocals. |
