Ah yes. The discussion on this topic over at Anime Central's forum has been rather... eventful. Someone even threatened a class action lawsuit. With the fee dropped from $25 to $5, that's a nice compromise.
Needless to say, badges should be arriving by now. Those living near Chicago should be getting them yesterday or today.

So you still have to pay for a badge they screwed up by not giving to you in the first place? Are the AX people running the show there?

I doubt that person would actually file, the fees alone wouldn't be worth it. But this whole situation really is a mess at least there going to refund your money if you pre-register for the con.

What I don't understand is how a mistake this big could happen you think that you want to make sure that the Badge got shipped out. The only thing that could be worse is if they didn't actually reserve the floor space for the convention.

I would have sued them for millions for actually having the audacity of charging for the badges after they themselves made the mistake.

With a pre-registration deadline of April 14 - AND - those pre-regs allowing badge mailing, this oversight was due to a last minute rush. From what I heard, badges were shipped out between the 23rd to 30th. First class postage wasn't used either.
Plus, this year was the first year for ACEN badge mailing for the general public. I have a feeling (that) they did not anticipate the numbers opting for mailing.
I received my badge yesterday, so I'm a happy camper. Even so, this kind of mess was ugly. However, if the convention time came up and my badge did not arrive, then I would have expected to go into that pre-registration line to pick one up myself.

That's exactly what the uproar was about.

That makes sense seeing all the delays, but still the issue remains if your going to plan to use mailing services, you need to plan ahead. It's quite unprofessional, but then again maybe everyone going to get them today....

I doubt millions, but then again I am not up to date on Illnois state laws, and more then anything I am pretty sure that over a matter of $5 isn't worth the amount it would cost to file.

I ordered the anniversary badge. I'm still hoping that it'll arrive before the convention. Since I placed my order in early March, & also since I live in Illinois, hopefully it was one of the earlier batches mailed out. The very reason why I placed the order was so I wouldn't have to wait in the registration lines anymore....

Well the initial uproar was about having to pay $25 for a new badge if it didn't come in time, and it wasn't going to be refunded. And this wasn't explicitly said when people bought their badges. I paid the extra money to have mine shipped so I didn't have to stand in line Thursday night, but as it got closer and I still had no badge I just figured I'd just have to stand in line and I'd be able to get my badge. When I read about the $25 I considered not going due to unforseen money issues, so I'm very glad it got changed to $5.
I still have faith that mine will come before I leave on Thursday though.

I pre-registered the day it went online, just to be safe & figured I'd have the badge by the April 14th badge receive day. I live in chicago, not even 6miles from the MAPS offices thingy, and I still haven't received my (anniversary) badge.
The con is in 4 days, so I'm getting a bit concerned. I hope it comes soon, 'cause I really don't want to wait in those notorius 7 hour lines, especially since I'm going after school & have to ride the Blue Line for an hour+ to get there, just to pay $5 to replace something the screwed up on & then have no time to see anything at the con itself.....
