here is my idea:
We arent allowed recomendation threads because we end up having a million of em. So instead we have one thread where people can post as follows: If you liked: [pick an Anime you liked] Then you might also like: [pick one or more other Anime that are similar and might appeal to people who liked the first one. You should probly at least give a brief explanation of why the Anime is good too.] This way when someone is looking for some recomendations, they can go through and look for stuff they've seen and see what else they might like. (sorry, I know were supposed to include or own contribution in the opening post but before I do, does anyone think this could actually work? I dont wanna do all that if the mods are just gonna lock this.) |

This is exactly what Anime Planet does (which is linked to in the "no recommendations" thread).
I'm not exactly against the idea in this thread since there are many anime missing from Anime Planet's database, which could be recommended in posting like here. But I'm not the one who decides (mods do). |

Yup. About almost every anime based forum -- they tend to have consolidated recommendation threads -- simply because there's always someone wanting one.

I don't get why there isn't a recommendation thread already.
A lot of people are for the idea, and people are constantly posting list threads that get locked. Why can't there be one pinned recommendation/list thread? Everyone gets that this forum is for discussing anime, not listing and recommending it, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for there to be just one thread dedicated to it. |

A recommendation thread wouldn't stop those people. If they fail to notice that those threads are not allowed in the first place then I doubt they would even notice if a recommendation thread existed. Plus, it would probably just fill up with "i liek trinity blood what else will i liek?" posts that aren't worth a response. |

If they really wanted to find something they'd probably like, they would do some research themselves. That's what the encyclopedia's for. Let's say they like Trinity Blood, they could look it up, look at the genres, and find other anime that share those genres and read the descriptions. They could also use the user ratings to see if it's worth watching. Sure, this might be a little more hit-and-miss than some other methods, but I've found just as many treasures as I've found muck doing it.

Iv actually found alot of treasures doing alot more of a gamble then that. Sometimes when Im bored Ill just open the encyclopedia, go to a random letter, and click on names that sound interesting. The I read the discription to see if it still sounds interesting. And I have found several really great titles like this. |

Anime doesn't have the two anime I wanted to ask about, so hopefully it will be allowed here since:
Gantz is my favourite series with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni following at a fairly close second. I like the horror aspects and I love suspense in anime-- I don't enjoy comedy although it plays a miniscule role in both. 3: I'm looking for something with the brilliance of the situations these titles set up. Something that truly keeps you on the edge of your seat and isn't ridiculously old (call me naive, but I find it hard to get involve if I'm mentally nitpicking the animation 8P). Elfen Lied has already been watched, by the way. I wasn't /thrilled/-- I think people made it seem too godly. I've seen countless people around here putting it on a pedestal and don't understand why. I liked it, and that's about it. |

If the time comes, and the senior staff are looking for input, I'm sure they'll ask. However, right now they're not.
