Yes, the setup theme to coupling two of the characters is an often recurring theme in a drama type anime/manga series, but to the circumstances of the events that happen after the tragedy, hard to say. Though I have to say that that does sound like an interesting turn of events, perhaps I will look into viewing this.

This show really peaks at the end of the second episode. The rest is an overwrought, angsty, melodrama with uneven pacing, superflous and underdeveloped secondary characters, and predictable plot turns. And the whole thing has terrible cookie-cutter character designs with annoying features and colors that clash.

It's a good show if you enjoy crying into a bucket of ice cream. Or maybe it's a female thing. All I know is that when I watched this at the anime club I attended, I couldn't wait to get it finished.

Why it's so popular I'll never know - it reeks of shallow pandering to the female crowd.

That's funny since the game and the show are actually targeted at males.

Well, that just shows how much it failed - it didn't appeal to any of my masculine sensibilities, not even on the most simpilistic levels. The women weren't even attractive, because the character designs were so generic.

I torrented this a while back for no raisin other than having a ton of wallpapers of the girls, just to see how it went (had those papers because while the design may be generic, it satisfied the schoolgirl aspect of the weeaboo inside me). Few things have ever made me fall out of my chair with laughter, but episode 3 sure did (at least, I'm pretty sure it was ep3; wherever the event triggering timeskip occurred). I mean, it's no baseball alarm clock, but I still probably had more solid laughs out of the drama and the "spot the hentai element/character positioning" game than any other anime. However, I am told by quasi-reliable sources (i.e. girls) that laughing at the show means I'm doing it wrong.

Perhaps it's a bit of a "comfort food" type of thing in that it's all been done before, and by doing it moderately well, that's how it succeeds. Since this does come from the ero-game genre, maybe the character designs aren't supposed to be as attractive when clothed.

There's also the possibility that with outr American tastes, some visual asthetic is getting lost in the translation. I remember when watching ye olde Kanon, I was put off with all the characters' eyes and how they had this seemingly obnoxious shine to them.

I have this theory that the eyes of the Kanon characters are portals to other universes.

And KGnE/RH gets REALLY Soap-Opera-y towards the end.

It comes from an ero game, all female character are supposed to be attractive in all facets of the game, even if the character design is generic.

I really, really liked this series. Like the reviewer said, if you like nothing but sci-fi or action or fan service, then you probably aren't going to like it. However, this is one of the few series which I've found which actually has a story and plot with any substantial depth to it.

Maybe it's because I've only been watching anime for something like 15 months, but I didn't think the character designs were too terrible "generic." I mean, it's supposed to be a "real life" anime, so in a way that's appropriate.

And I'm the opposite about the first 2 episodes. I think the series really starts after the first 2 episodes. The first 2 episodes are good for setup, but they don't have a heck of a lot of story to them other than setting up the rest of the series. I mean, I'd probably cry my eyes out from boredom if I had 14 episodes the same as the first two.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see what is possibly funny about the series, even if you dislike the genre.

Hmm, as I recall, the guy's complete imcompetence at talking to the girl, the girl looking straight at the dead-on camera angle with scared and teary eyes that looked like it was lifted straight out of the game (or any generic hentai game) and only had the dialog box containing the options "RAPE HER" and "DON'T RAPE HER" removed. Then everything's going so well between the two when spoiler[snape kills spike with the people soylent green is made out of, and the girl gets annihilated by the car.] And as I said before, finding every possible h-game stereotype (and there's quite a few), the sheer irrationality of the character's actions for the most part all helped KGNE seem just completely absurd to me.

Story? Plot? What plot? It's the same as any other h-game-based piece of garbage. It has the depth of a cheesy soap opera, with poorly timed "comedy" and flat, uninteresting characters.

*points above* This proves the love it or hate it mentality towards KimiNozo. I lean towards the love it side myself.

From what I've heard of the dub, I liked it, even if Ayu's "Go step in cat sh!t" was removed from the dub script (as far as I could tell from the dub clips online).

I remember when this show was shown at a local small anime con. It was just before Advent Children and the room was packed, then we put the first two episodes on. Needless to say, it worked wonders for a good number of people, especially one who joined the anime club that hosted the event.

I was going to buy the first dvd vol.1 of Rumbling Hearts, but to tell you the truth I saw thefirts episode of Rumbling Hearts and the voice acting was terrible, it was so unrealistic. Although this is true, the story of this anime is very good.
In fact I wouldn't mind watching it at all, I've seen so much anime with bad voice acting and I got used to it by now Anime smile + sweatdrop . I can ignore it lol
I had to choose between paradise kiss and rumbling hearts though, It was really hard [chose paradise kiss] . Hopefully I'll get to buy it [rumbling hearts] later on.Although i dont know yet [broke] haha Anime smile + sweatdrop

So far I will say that it is one of the series that I feel fairly neutral about. It reminds me of Koi Kaze in atmosphere, although I prefer Rumbling Hearts more so far. I however don't think it is anywhere as great as the Type Moon series. I'm going based off of the first volume, so maybe I will eventually end up loving or hating the series. I usually can't stand the listlessness of most dating sim anime, so I'm inclined to believe that I will end up not liking Rumbling Hearts by the end. With only 3 volumes the series is really easy to pick up.

Word. I decided to watch it when I saw how high people were rating it, and when I finished, I thought "wtf...this is like animated daytime soaps." It definitely wasn't the greatest series ever, but it wasn't a complete waste of my time...parts of it were entertaining, and I did find myself wondering which path TakAyuki would chooose. I'm just glad it was 14 eps and not 26. As for the high ratings, I think people just started jumping on the bandwagon when it aired and rated it a masterpiece...maybe those people were new to anime based on games, or maybe everything they had watched up to that point just sucked really bad.
