Cautiously optimistic!
Will be a tough act to top the original.

If this is a full-blown series remake and not just another film or special, I don't know how such a sexist and testosterone-fueled 80s IP will fare in today's climate where people are very sensitive to such things.

My guess is that this won't be a full-on remake/reboot, but rather either an original plot or new version of an iconic story arc. I mean, yeah, a remake could adapt up through the final fight with Raoh (i.e. the part that's generally only really brought up to, in retrospect, with rare exceptions) within about a year or so, but at the same time the OG anime is considered such an all-time classic in Japan that it seems like no one would be really willing to attempt trying to remake it.

AYYY Now there's a show that could use a remake.
Hope they get Akira Kamiya as Ryuken or the narrator.

Geo: The OG anime has some terrible production values, relative to the original manga. But I hope they can keep the music...Anyway, I know it's redundant, but it's a shame that we'll never see that Mad Max anime, now.

OK... and your point is?

It's still considered an all-time classic in Japan & is cherished as a pop culture icon. It's one of those anime that no one seems to be readily willing to remake, because the original is just that ingrained in Japanese pop culture, flaws & all.

It'll be extremely easy to top the original with its mountains of terrible filler and atrociously bad animation.

Praying for the subtitler's sake that they don't whiff "You are already dead."

I think plenty of time has passed by now for a more direct remake to be on the table.

Since we're in a world where Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Baki are now firmly mainstream internationally, it seems like a good time try. I figure these things lining up are just a coincidence, this new production going with the anniversary and all, but it's probably fortunate all the same.

My one concern is, I hope this isn't going to end up being some weird CGI thing.

Hara and Burosan seemed to imply this was a full remake in public statements, which has me thinking Netflix is footing the bill.

Bastard was a hit, so I don't see why this can't be.

This would be the perfect Netflix anime.

My main question about this is: is David Production involved in any way? They would be perfect for translating Hara-sensei's art into animation.

Only if the original 80's anime also come to Netflix too.

I'm interested if this new Fist of the North Star anime will be a new adaptation of the manga, I wonder how many episodes will this be compared to the 80's series. Or will this new adaptation be akin to Dragonball Z Kai? Anyway, can't wait to see more detail about this new anime.
