I had to do a double-take because I thought this wasn't out for another two weeks. Nope, just the collector's edition. I guess I can trade in the duplicate FF16 I got because that delivery also had issues.

For my part, I'll be hoping this is Tribe Nine Kodaka and not Akudama Drive Kodaka, just as far as not killing everyone for a change. I suppose I'll manage as long as the mysteries are good, but I'm getting to be a little too old for "look everyone's dead are you sad yet?!"

So far I'm pretty, "Eh, it's decent," on it. Not super far in but it's kind of just making me wish I was playing Danganronpa or AITSF instead, it's kind of the best parts of both in a lesser package. Maybe opinion will change as it picks up.

That said I do super understand already why Shinigami is listed as a complaint here. She's had funny moments but thus far it's just making me think, "There is a reason that even in Ultra Despair Girls Genocide Jack was a side character and not a co-lead and it's because nonstop squealing thirsting bloodlust while funny in small doses can get really annoying really quickly."

I think she's more like Junko myself. I believe Kodaka even initially described Shinigami as "what if Junko was your detective partner" initially from what I remember. Given how popular Junko was, I wouldn't be surprised. Personally, I love her and don't mind her at all. I haven't finished it yet, but I think it's pretty great so far. As someone who really liked Danganronpa I'm pretty happy with it and the characters so far.

However, the lip flaps aren't even close. Often a cut scene will continue for multiple seconds with a character still "talking," but the vocal track ended. This isn't a one-off scenario, it's every cut scene from start to finish. I can only hypothesize there were issues with script approval or that the script and dub were created prior to seeing the in-game footage. I don't think this will be fixed later, and is, unfortunately, rather distracting during climactic and emotional moments within the story.

I can't overstate how much this annoys me. How is it that Ultra Despair Girls, a game from around a decade ago now, didn't have this issue at all in it's cutscenes? It's distracting

Admittedly it's probably not a huge thing to most people, but it really does bug the hell out of me. I get a game this niche isn't gonna have the budget for international lip syncing, but sometimes it really does feel like there wasn't even an attempt
