Can't say I'm surprised with the number. Heck, I think many of younger batch of Hollywood actors/actresses are into anime as well.
I'm guessing the reason why they don't speak up about it is simply because they treat anime as a form of entertainment media, i.e. just another hobby. It's not like being anime fan is outlandish nowadays.

That checks out, the NFL had anime promotions and MLB had all sorts of Japanese ads recently not just anime related ads.

I'm reminded of something that was mentioned on a commentary track I listened to awhile back where it was mentioned that some of the quirks of recording anime used to be considered odd but now don't even get mentioned because new actors are coming into it having watched plenty of anime themselves so they don't even think about it.

Last time I saw Shohei Ohtani pitch, I did notice some Japanese language banner ads behind the plate - but only when he was pitching. When the other team's pitcher was on the mound, the banners changed to the usual ads (well, including Toyota, but that's different).

Anime has been known to particularly resonate with African Americans and hip-hop artists, including sharing being somewhat eccentric/stigmatized/outsider and underdog stories:

I’m surprised but at the same time not, because I know that anime is popular in combat sports circles, especially since that’s what was on and what was popular when these people were growing up, and again now with the rise of streaming and making the material super easy to access. And with that, it’s less a specific, super hardcore niche and more another form of entertainment for everyone.
