It's still cheaper than cable if you really only care about a select few things and don't need to watch every new show or movie. But I do think the "golden era of streaming" is over. Services shutting down or consolidating. Multiple teirs. Ads. It's no longer the super convenient and novel thing it was toted as years ago. But that stopped being true back when we saw Netflix lose a lot of licenses because companies were starting their own services and splintered the market again. I don't really watch much new shows so I'm not sure how splintered the newer stuff is but I do remember when Netflix lost a bunch of old series I liked such as The Office.

Hrm. I might have to stop, then. It's not really worth it to me to just watch old Simpsons.

I'm surprised they still haven't announced a release date for Pretty Boy Villain Isekai: The Anime. I know so many thirsty fangirls just waiting to pounce on it the second it comes out.

I feel like they're only doing this because netflix is doing it because no way it's possible that Disney+ is short on money

Let's see them make their generic shows when everyone goes back to pirating.

...And Dropped.
I've been chipping away at Owl House, slowly, and the price increase really makes it too much for the rate I've been watching it.

I don't understand why this is necessary. This seems to be a US only thing for now but it's only a matter of time when other countries will have to deal with this too.
I also don't see the point of paying for a service with included ads. I'm paying because I want to AVOID ads altogether.

Disney lost over a billion dollars on streaming in 3 months. If you can't make money on the current price with over 200 million subscribers what choices are there?
As a media analyst I follow keeps saying.
"Maybe nobody’s *ever* going to make money in SVOD."

Disney lost over a billion on streaming and by keeping it's shows and films to itself it's licencing and theatrical division also lost money.
Disney profit centres are cable TV affiliate fees and US theme parks (the international ones lost money again).
Disney accepted the loss to drive growth well they have peaked (they only gained 100,000 new subscribers in the last quarter in the US and Canada) so now it's raise prices till they make a profit.

Well see they are losing money on every subscriber at the current price so since they are a business and the aim is to make money and not throw it into a never ending furnace they are raising the price.

I'm surprised Aniplex has been so quiet about it. We've heard nothing about it other than it's happening and that announcement was almost a year ago. Aniplex Online Fest is happening in late September so I'm hoping they'll announce something then.
As for the price hike, I'm hoping they'll do a deal for D23 members like they did for the launch. I paid for 3 years up front and when you break it down by month, it was just shy of $4/month. I won't expect a deal as low as that, but I'd at least like something decent.

Maybe not for Peak TV but free services like Pluto seem to be generating a fair amount of money at little cost to the vendor.

Typical. At least Netflix said their price would be cheaper.
All I can hope for is that the triple pack keeps those costs to a minimum. Inflation is hitting every sector of consumer spending, and entertainment is not excluded (ironically as people drop streaming services to save money for necessities). Telecom companies that offer subscriptions with their plans such as Verizon with Disney + are likely to see benefits.
