I don't mean an option for entering your gender, I think not employed partly because of privacy concerns.
I know just considering it might trigger peoples sensitivities about things being too PC these days. So it's not really a request or suggestion, just opening up a thought I had.
One benefit to the pronoun tag is in consideration of those LGBTQ users here who might appreciate that little bit of extra empathy for their needs.
Rather than having to correct people on the pronoun they prefer, it's right there under their profile picture. If it's not entered, it just shows nothing like not entering anything for location.
It's not forcing anyone, it's just another option that shows we care.

Snowflakes. I'd be all for this as long as it was optional.

Realistically this option is for anyone, not just transpeople. Instead of wondering whether you should say "she, his, they, etc." that information is available if people choose to provide it.

I for one would actually appreciate knowing which pronouns any given poster would like to be used.

Third person pronouns are almost never called for on a forum like this. You may name a user so that we can identify who you are responding to, but if you're referring multiple times to a user, you're probably derailing the thread.

This is a good idea. We'll get it done in the next update to the forum.
I had intended on doing a significant update earlier this year, it's delayed, but it will be done this year.

For anybody who feels this request is a bit odd, I should point out that large corporations seem to be doing this on email for signature lines. I have a friend whose wife works for a huge telecomm company and everybody puts the pronouns they want used down in their signature line.

Thanks Blood- for the supportive information. And you're right it may seem odd, especially for those asking, "in my day, we didn't need no damn pronouns everywhere!" So why are they needed these days? The simple fact that we take for granted how much the Internet has changed our world. I experienced a little bullying growing up in the 80's. My way of dealing with it was simply ignoring bullies or using a little reverse psychology. I can't imagine what kids these days go through with cyberbullying, where simply ignoring bullies is hardly an option. I like to think pronouns allow you to OWN your identity in a simple way that transcends notions of gender; what's socially expected and what's not.
PM me if you'd like me to explain more since continued debate about this may be a bit off-topic for this forum. But I just wanted to add my bit of perspective here.

pronouns don't equal gender. if you feel comfortable using any pronouns, go for it! it's not appropriation.
one thing i would consider though is neopronouns. are you okay being referred to as xe/xem or fae/faer or other common neopronouns? it's not likely to happen honestly, but if you feel uncomfortable with them you may want to use "he/she/they". it might seem a bit cumbersome to do that though, but it's up to you.

Hey check it out, if you adjust the entry for your Location you can make your own Pronouns tag.
Mods: let me know if that's not really kosher and I'll remove it.

I have no problems with you using the location field this way.

You could get creative and put something like "she can be found in her...."

Yeah and the margin width isn't consistent enough between devices, so I realize now it isn't for other users either.
