SQUARE: I initially liked the GotG reveal but the more we saw the less excited I became. Single-player is great but only controlling Star Lord? Plus the dialogue was way too quippy. Even Gamora was turned into a quip machine.
Also, WTH? no mention of NEO: TWEWY?. CAPCOM: Poor Capcom. Their show wasn't bad but they had already revealed most of that barely a month ago. Still looking forward to MH stories 2. NINTENDO: Advance wars weren't the GBA game I was hoping would see knew life (Poor Golden Sun ) but still a good choice and I personally like the new look. Never played Metroid or Megaten but interested in their new entries. |

METROID DREAD
Goddamn what a ride Nintendo’s presentation was. I was surprised there was no Pokemon or Fire Emblem but I was even more surprised at what they did have. As you said, they really didn’t even need to try to take this one home. Loved it. |

To be fair, the trailer on Atlus' channel isn't what was in the Japanese version of the Direct; they got the same trailer we did, just with Japanese narration. The footage for SMT V looks great overall, but I'm not a fan of how they're reusing parts of Tokyo Mirage Sessions' UI. That game was going for a very different look and feel, so to see so much of the battle interface and level up screen reused with little alteration is jarring.
It already did, though? Last edited by DRWii on Wed Jun 16, 2021 8:45 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Metroid Dread looks great and it'll likely be my first Metroid game.
CHAOS was uh, very CHAOS. |

My favorite announcement of the show was for Outer Worlds 2 this time. Next best is Metroid (Fusion was the Metroid I played most), and I'll probably end up getting that cute Zelda Game & Watch as long as the scalpers don't beat me and everyone else to it. Totally agree about the general underwhelming presence, but I'm plenty excited enough to know about OW2 and new Metroid.
Thanks for that Valis heads up! Probably wouldn't have heard about it otherwise. |

The reveal of Final Fantasy Origin was terrible, not helped by the fact that it leake way before E3...BUT the demo is actually really good! It's definitely an FFI remake. The souls like gameplay is fun, and there isn't even a soul collection mechanism and difficulty levels, so anyone that's ever wanted to play a Soulslike but was scared of the difficulty can check this out. The main dude, Jack's (lol) appearance starts off bland, but you quickly get armor that changes your appearance. You can even have multiple jobs assigned at once that allows you two quickly switch between armor/weapon sets on the fly.
Bad first impression, but gameplay is king, and this has potential. |

SMTV’s Japanese PV hypes up the game a lot better than the e3 trailer. I love the unsettling/pretty aesthetic. Soundtrack sounds amazing already.

I find Kazuya's inclusion to be nice cos the character is probably one most evil Tekken characters. Smash doesn't have too many these characters with few exceptions so there is quite a balance. Heihachi is also villain but Tekken 7 tried making justifying his actions even if it felt forced as heck. Harada has often stated that while both Kazuya and Heihachi are evil, the former is probably the most evil with the reason being due to his devil transformation. His only weak point to a good person was Jun but that ended up being ambiguous as heck.
Jin might be a good inclusion but his whole characerization is quite weird considering how his fighting style changed a lot ever since 4 and his personality is a mess. Tekken has been forcing the audience since 6's ending that Jin is basically Lelouch as their massacres are supposed to be justifiable due to his means although he sometimes comes across as whiny due to how he is obssessed with that Devil Gene. |

Kazuya makes character number...something I'd never so much as heard of before getting included in Smash. I know a lot of people are pumped and I'm sure he'll be fun to play, but I can't help but wish a few of the DLC characters had been more familiar to me. Anyways, Metroid Dread was a massive surprise, the BOTW2 news was just a drip but at least we know when it's coming, and because I'm a sucker I'll probably get one of those Game & Watch things to gather dust next to my Mario one.
Re: E3 in general, I'm always amazed at how many people somehow let themselves get hyped up for it year after year, when for as long as I've followed it it's always promised much more than it delivered. Then again my philosophy toward games tends to be "I'll care about it when it's actually out and people tell me that it's good." |

It was revealed pre-E3, but for me, the most memorable new game announced the past couple of weeks was Palworld, an open-world Pokemon-like with guns and slavery. It was the talk of Gaming Twitter a week and a half ago for its bizarre trailer.
As for E3 itself, there wasn't much shown that I'm interested in. Ecstatic that a second Mario + Rabbids is now official, and SMTV is looking good. Metroid Dread is one I'll keep an eye on, and I would say the same for the Advance Wars remakes if I hadn't found out today that WayForward is working on them (I... don't really like their games). There were also some indie games that looked neat, and that's about it. As for that gritty FFI spinoff/reboot, I guess this generation is no longer lacking its Dirge of Cerberus? |

Superheroes have become very homogenized. Quips were Spider-Man's thing but now pretty much every hero does it since it's trendy. Star Lord in the MCU in particular was made into a manchild Han Solo-like guy and these games are basically value-brand versions of their MCU characterizations so I'm not surprised at the dialog. Marvel stuff being most of Square-Enix's show overall was very disappointing, but I guess they're saving all the good stuff for TGS. For what it's worth GOTG looks to be better than Avengers, but that's not saying much I guess. The Final Fantasy HD sprite games look kind of bad, though. All the sprites look really bright and have a weird color hue to them like the mobile ports and steam versions did, or how the way the color palette on the GBA version of 6 was. I think Dragon Quest 3 wins out on this one in terms of making a modern sprite-based game. Nintendo was definitely my favorite part of E3. Excited for Metroid Dread especially and reminds me a lot of the Strider remake they put out in 2014. It was neat seeing Advance Wars again but I'm not really digging the art style. The 2D art looks a bit too Flash-esque and the CG looks very rough like a low budget mobile game. Granted, the sprite-work of the originals are amazing, but hopefully they can tweak the graphics before release. |

I'm aware of all that, but even compared to her MCU counterpart Game Gamora's merchant t-shirt 'joke' was really weird. And since the camera was behind them I often couldn't tell who was talking, which makes their similar bad jokes just blend together. |

Just want to make a special shout out to the RIAA, the worst organization out there, for basically ruining watching E3 with streamers.
I watched PatStaresAt's E3 stream for Microsoft/Bethesda and ended up not watching any of his other ones, because him having to constantly mute stuff, the chat freaking out because music was playing or he was muting stuff. The arguing between him and Paige over if the music that was being played by trailers on the stream were in order. It sucked, and honestly, I probably won't bother watching it in the future. And what also annoys me is that nobody understands who's really to blame for E3 commentary streams sucking now... It's not the streamer's fault. it's not even the video game studios' fault for using licensed music*, because people love to blame them and rake them over the coals for that, but it's not. Music is a component of audio/visual work, such as trailers and video games. No, it's actually the RIAA's fault. They are systematically ruining every f**king thing out there, in order squeeze profit for themselves out it, even if they've already got there's, because they've licensed the music out to the game studio for a trailer or video game. Honestly, it'd be great if they could be confined to the dustbin of history already, because the RIAA contributes nothing of value to society, are are an actual leach and drag on society and creativity. Which, I want to point out, was the point of copyright, to encourage creativity, not stifle it. And it sure as hell not like any of those pencil pushers actually created any of this creative work they're so psychotically protective of, or deserve the reward for that work. * Sidenote: Nobody also seems to get that basically any music can be licensed... including vocal-less, instrumental background music... The presence of vocals or if you recognize the song really has f**k all to do with if it's under copyright, and open to a DMCA take down notice.[/b] |
