So did I get that right from the article that the jail sentence has been cause of "anime porn pictures"?
If so, I call that bullshit, friggin 4 years for a drawing.
That's why I'll never be a fan of the UK, and its draconian law's.
The sentence would have been appropriate if it's cause of the terroristic stuff, as far right neonazi, but friggin drawings?
Never change UK, another day another man incarnated cause of drawing's,
As Ken Akamatsu once said, putting people into jail just cause of drawing's is stupid just plain stupid.

Which would be ironic since Tanya isn't a Nazi.

Quote: | "Prosecutor Dan Pawson-Pounds said: 'Although most of the files in this folder did not show any sexual acts, there was a series of 12 drawings of the same hand-drawn girl, who appeared to be eight or nine years old, engaged in acts of intercourse.'
"Mr Pawson-Pounds said that aggravating features in relation to the prohibited images included the age of the child depicted, and the fact she looked distressed in some images and was wearing a school uniform." |
You could take a CGI scene from the visual novel Maitetsu(currently playing) and it would fit that to a T. Heck, you could take a CGI sequence from almost any mainstream eroge visual novel and it would still fit. Wonder how they'd react to someone who'd downloaded the entire release archive of Comic LO?
UK, Australia, Canada, never bring that stuff with you on border crossings, just have it in the cloud and use vpn...

I think Canada was the first western country to start this following Australia with that infamous case involving Lisa Simpson.

Nope! You may want to reread the article again, specifically this section:
Quote: | On April 1 2021, Benjamen Hammen was convicted of having been a member of the banned Neo-Nazi group National Action, prior to his enrolling with the Met Police in 2018. Hanmen was also convicted of possessing two documents useful to a terrorist; these documents were a knife-fighting guide and a manual written by Anders Behring Breivik, who murdered 77 people in Norway in 2011. Hanmen also lied about his far-right past on his Met application form.. |
As it turns out, he was jailed for being part of a domestic terrorist organization, and committed fraud when trying to infiltrate the police. A wonder what reading the article can do to make things clearer.

The four years of the sentence (we do concurrent) was for being a member of a banned organisation (the first banned nazi one since WW2),. usually these are terrorist or terrorist adjacent*, then lying about it on various official documents he was required to sign to become a police officer.
In the UK it's extremely rare for sentencing to be consecutively, we tend to do concurrent with the additional offences affecting how long it is before you can be considered for release or acting as aggravating factors in the sentencing decision.
So he's been sentenced to 4 years for the main offence of membership of a banned group, but he's also been sentenced to various lengths for his other offences (for example a year for fraud in relation to lying on the official forms about ever being a member of a "proscribed group"). How this affects the sentence is basically it means he's likely to be inside for longer before he's eligible for release, and may get additional supervision, not that his sentence is actually longer like in the US where the terms often get added on.
The actual hentai/pictures stuff has barely been mentioned in UK news (this is the first I've seen of it) as whilst by the sounds of it what he had is illegal in the UK, it's pretty much nothing compared to a serving officer in the police force being a former member (he left just before applying for training) of a banned group and having been actively involved in that groups activities.
The group he was involved with has had several members done for serious offences and the final straw was how it celebrated the murder of a serving member of parliament which led to them being investigated more thoroughly and "proscribed".
Without knowing more about the pictures I suspect if they had been in isolation and he wasn't a serving officer he might have just been given some sort of warning, but when the police have got you (especially as a serving officer) for major offences they and the Criminal Prosecution Service (CPS who decide on the charges based on evidence found by the police) are going to throw the book at you, and they're going to go for every offense they can because they really don't want someone who was a member of a banned group in uniform.
I can't see it mentioned in the BBC article but the investigation into him was likely run by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who are the national body for oversight of the police here, and they tend to be automatically involved in any investigation about major criminal activity involving police officers (and automatically called in for any death in police custody etc). This combination is not exactly loved by the normal police, as they will look under every stone and charge an officer with every offence they can find if they think that person has broken the law in serious manner, but at the same time it also tends to lead to a better quality of policing as it means bad cops get caught more quickly and easily, whilst also helping monitor for issues with training or equipment (does the evidence suggest that the officer who killed someone in a crash was acting unlawfully, or that the vehicle, training or procedures were not up ot scratch)..
sorry, went a bit long there as I'm aware there are significant differences in how the UK handled policing, law enforcement and sentencing compared to the US, so a lot of assumptions based on US may not apply.
*The likes of the various Irish and islamic terrorist groups.

In one of the news articles there's an image of the bookshelf in his room. On the lower shelf copies of Mirai, Paprika, Evangelion, Akira and various incarnations of Ghost in the Shell are lined up. Not too sure how I feel about someone like that having those on display surrounded by all the 'other' stuff...

Without wanting to make light of the entire case, but "Pawson-Pounds", the name of the prosecutor, sounds like the parody of a fursona name.
Would've preferred this as the name for the lolicon neo-Nazi.
