Most Japanese websites can't seem to authenticate any of my US bank accounts. Most of the time it doesn't really matter because they won't ship internationally anyway, but in cases where the product is downloaded directly it would be very nice to have a Japanese bank account that allowed me to download a Japanese song or other purchase without having to pay for third party processing. Is it possible to setup a Japanese bank account from outside Japan? I've noticed that some Japanese sites are starting to make changes to allow foreign cards to work but the vast majority of Japanese sites can still only authenticate to a Japanese bank card. Does anyone with more experience of the Japanese banking system have any advice or a link to someplace where I can find out more information? Everything I've read so far sounds like a real horror story, even for folks who are living IN Japan itself.

That's actually pretty true! ^^ I know friends, also living in Japan, who had many difficulties to open their bank account. I don't think it could be possible to open a bank account without a japanese postal address. For your information, beNippon can help you to get things from "we-ship-only-in-Japan" sites!
